Dev Blog: Deep Dive into the Shrine

so let’s say you get lucky and get a good perk to keep and roll the other one. But then, down the line a patch changes something and the locked perk becomes shite, then its into the trash bin since you can’t change it

everything else would be okay (depending on resources costs to do this stuff) but locking perks and blessings is the exact opposite of what player feedback was after

edit
and as far as Earn Blessing goes:
Earn Blessing

Surrender the entire weapon to Hadron, thereby losing it in the process. Players can then select a Blessing to earn the right to permanently re-bless other weapons with the earned blessing. Blessings are shared across different weapon marks of the same weapon type.

“can select A blessing” if it has two on there, guess you can’t earn both, one goes into the trash

The really sad thing here is that this Dev Post has shown that our worst suspicions about FatShark and their motivations were completely justified.

They are making the most minor changes to put in the most minimal RNG mitigations, while keeping most of the core of the terrible itemization and RNG in place. They are doing the smallest amount possible, to make it look like they’re making things better.

I honestly don’t think there’s any hope anymore. This is their third go at a crafting system, and they’re still fully comitted to making it as painful as possible for their customers to get items they want. The game can’t be saved at this point, because it’s obvious that the people in charge at FatShark have a very specific Design Intent in mind, and it’s to bend all of us over.

I like these changes and i hope they translate well into reality! Keep it up!

That’s the rub too.

I don’t want to be negative about this but the issue is that it really doesn’t fix any of the current problems that are most complained about, especially not bad curio rolls.

I wouldn’t mind spending the crafting mats and them being character locked if I wasn’t constantly worried about wasting them because the rng machine spit out something slightly better only for it to get ruined by a bad upgrade or an existing item gets a roll changed IE toughness regen.

I’ve played the game for close to 300 hours because the gameplay loop is fun but the gear system, rng dependency, and lack of ability to share anything kills my enjoyment because my ability to try new things is entirely locked to a slot machine that I have minimal control over.

I generally have good luck but my friends don’t and I don’t think just pulling the slot machine more times really fixed it at all.

I will say it. I think that opening blessing and all perks without anyone locked would be bad.
In fact, you would only need few weapons to get what you want.

Also, the side effect would be that you would not test other configurations.
I actually have a combat axe without brutal momentum. Guess what? it is really excellent.

But, if I had the choice, what I would do? follow the advices of others that tell you this blessing is bad, this one is good…

You can be disappointed, you can rage… but it was certain we would get that.
I told it a long time ago… people did not believe me…

We keep acquiring items. None of them have the stats that we want.
We keep getting items and we know that none of them are what we want.
This is not exciting. It sucks.

It was an intentional design decision, that we are required to buy more and more grey quality weapons and then have to upgrade their quality multiple times.
Just to see, at what stage that item (with already exceptionally lucky stats), gets bricked.
This is by design. It was chosen to be done this way.
This is 100% anti player.

Everybody hates this. Nobody likes this.
It is garbage design that introduces even more RNG and bricks most weapons the moment they get upgraded to purple quality.

Same garbage as the perk system.
It is garbage design that bricks most weapons the moment they get upgraded to orange quality.

Great. Then do not release this garbage, that is against pretty much anything that anyone in the community has ever suggested.
The “system” as described in the OP keeps all things that are hated about the current system and even doubles down on some of them.
The “system” minimizes player agency and maximizes the grind for resources that are almost guaranteed to be completely wasted, and for items that are almost guaranteed to be complete trash (or at least not what we want).

The system as suggested in the OP is the antithesis of what it should be.
Do not release it in that state.

Let us change both perks (select, not randomly roll).
Let us change both blessings (THAT is how you allow experimentation and build diversity).
Give us a way to upgrade the base modifiers of an item.
The goal should not be to constantly throw items away, because they got ruined by RNG.
The goal should be to modify and upgrade an item to perfection.

Do not release the system as it is described in the OP. It is an insult.

Hey… you see, I told it to you… they won’t change entirely the system.

Wait to be told that the blessing you « earn » will have the same level it had on the sacrificed weapon, hence you can’t have max level of the blessing you want unless you get a weapon that get it

You did indeed, but i did not think that they would actually take a steaming dump on the playerbase like this, after they had so much time to see the feedback regarding the RNG fest that we already have.

If you think about it… it is not so bad.

You can now get the weapons you need. Perks are not problem for weapons… however for curios it is really annoying

True. Now i can stop playing this game without feeling bad, since there is pretty much no hope left, that they will fix this mess.

Please change it to where you can re-roll both perks!!! Have the re-roll cost mats to replace. Locking both the perks/blessings will make this even more tedious than it should be.

If that can’t be done, can we at least have a way to upgrade the blessings in some form? I don’t want to be stuck with an item that has the lowest tier of blessing without anyway to improve it. Are we unable to combine lower tier blessings to improve the blessing on the weapons? Please, please, please make some more changes. This update is gonna be a big one that makes or breaks for a lot of people.

Yeaaa, I think I’m pretty much done with this game if that’s where we’re going.

The #1 thing that makes this game not fun is that getting items is such an absurd lottery that it feels like a waste of time even trying to get your perfect item.

What do they do to fix this?

No thanks.

The likelihood of getting an item with a high item rating, a perfect perk and a perfect blessing is so atrociously bad that it’s not worth anyone’s time to try. Especially considering that bar stats are capped right now, which means the ability to get the best possible item is planned in for future content anyways, and your current items will simply become obsolete.

I’m sad that a great game is getting destroyed by absurd design choices like this. The whole point of the item system should be to motivate people to play, but all this “locked perk, locked blessing” crap does is give me a sense of futility. Too much randomness multiplying with itself into astronomically bad odds.

Please just add a cost to refine the locked perk/blessing. Require some special material (i.e. 500 extra diamantine) or X number of enemies defeated. I don’t mind a hoop to jump through, but give us one.

totally agree, why do the stat bars max out at 80 if going to 100 was never to be an option? Why aren’t they 100 now? And if this is somehow introduced, how will that be done?

Seriously guys, you see only the problems, and not the solutions.

Now we will be able to replace one blessing… this means we will be able to make good weapons with the blessing we want.
Yes, you will still need to create several weapons to get a weapon with both blessing you want. But that’s far from impossible.

What did you want? A window where you choose the modifiers, perks and blessings?
Seriously you have really thinked you would have such system?

The what you think what was the part which the dev disliked about the “old” system ? Cuz they wont tell us… So my tinfoilhat still on cuz i think the devs had nothing at dec and this “rework” just a preemtive PR crap.

They are kind of just shooting themselves in the leg with this one.

Their lack of shared resources will make less people branch out into making or focusing on several characters, which means a lot of people have at least 1-3 classes they just dont care about, which will more or less just end up with less cosmetic sales since someone that focuses on only 1 or 2 classes will have little interest in buying cosmetics for the remaining classes that they dont play.

Its basically a game mechanic that works against their own monetization scheme.

Dude, this is the exact reason why I stopped playing Anthem, Outriders, The Division 2, and a bunch of other games. It’s always the same thing. The devs get this brilliant idea that they can make you play forever by just making the endgame item hunt so insanely random that you would have to play for thousands of hours to truly max out a character.

Well I’m sorry, if they want me to transition from playin for content to playing for progression and stick around and buy cosmetics they have to make it worth my time.

I’m not at fault here for not wanting to throw thousands of hours of my life into a slot machine that dispenses virtual items.

Besides, the solution is easy: They create a system where randomness is small enough that you have a reasonable expectation of getting a great item eventually. Having three different things about the item that need to align perfectly with less than a 1% chance for the item to be exactly what the player wants is simply so unlikely that no reasonable person is going to spend their time trying to acquire it.

“The other blessing that was not chosen will become locked.”

This is probably the final nail in the coffin for me. Perks being locked… Fine. But the blessings are pretty integral to wanting to try different combinations over.
