Blindly running forward through a crowd is the Ogryn’s signature ability. And, yes, I’ve certainly shaken hands with a DH hidden behind a crowd that way.
That’s not a problem with the DH in principle, but it’s just so much less obvious than the Witch. It’s far too quiet, and not visually distinctive at all in many lighting conditions.
That’s not what I meant. What I meant was speedrunners. You ever get into a party and one person had tape on the run button? Even in fights, they run through it, as if there aren’t stages in the game where you can’t leave til everything is dead?
I’ve played with people who charge in blindly, head down and screaming, THROUGH hordes of enemies, often without making sure any of them are dead, leaving the rest of the team to mop up behind them. These people often end up in some far off area, held down by a hound, forcing the team to decide to run and help them (which sometimes isn’t even possible due to their location) or let them die and try to rescue them later.
That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about.
As for being able to hear the Demonhost? I have constant Tinnitus (ringing) in my ears and I can hear her pretty well. Listen for ANY female voice that seems to be talking to someone else (which is the only female voice that does that; the Trapper has a female voice, but she’s literally talking to you) asking questions. One of her signature lines is ‘Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz…’ which instantly lets me know she’s there.
People underutilise the heck out of ping. If you see a dense crowd you can’t see through you should ALWAYS be spamming ping at it to work out if there are nasty specials lurking in or behind it.
And very helpfully the game has given DH its own unique ping colour and icon so it’s immediately obvious when pinged that you should not be approaching or trying to shoot it.
Seriously, ping, people need to use it a heap more than they currently do.
In Verm I had it on mousewheel for just that. This game says it’ll take ping on mousewheel, but it doesn’t so I imagine I’ll have to rebind mousewheel to X or the like.
Anyone else not hearing the D-host half the time? I often don’t get the sound or the fog until I chase a trapper onto it. Especially on my zealot with the evis ticking in my ear.
Yeah sound has been inconsistent for me, sometimes the the frosty screen effects as well. I also could swear I’ve had one spawn straight in front of me. No sound cues, no frosty screen, just walking forwards not attacking anything then BAM, DH tearing me face off.
Same. then “Why did you do that?!?!!” “Why didn’t you ping it?” “I did!” “Did you really? You didn’t have a verbal and you didn’t keep it pinged and you knew we were fighting that mutant in the corner!”
Or you just go around a corner after a trapper, no sound but your evis whirring, and you’re face to face with Cherubeal’s cousin.
Why do you believe this? You can’t hear their sound over combat. You can’t see their crumpled body on the floor behind a crowd. You can’t distinguish their fog effect in some map areas. How is this “easy to know”?
Sure, sure, never use your Ogryn ability into enemies. Best, really, to never move forward. Best really to never play the game. Which is where I am now, sadly. DH broke me. I’m done.
Daemonhosts certainly need tuning. In my experience (frequent Malice/Heresy flier) they’re either a joke or a wipe. Very rarely there’s a middle ground where two people actually survive what’s going on, but that’s the rare case when you’re dealing with only the Daemonhost, and there’s nothing else around.
