Darktide Steam feed isn't your Instagram

If you want to post things like these, do it on Instagram, Facebook, here on forums or whatever other kind of general-purpose social media you like. The pets are cute, but they are not related to the game in any way.

Darktide’s Steam feed is - like all other Steam game feeds - meant to convey information related to the game itself, be it directly (updates, announcements) or peripherally (dev blogs, polls etc). You don’t have enough goodwill left for the community to see such direction of the feed in positive light.

P. S.
Tripwire went that route after Killing Floor 2 and one look at r/killingfloor should be enough of a deterrent from following in their footsteps. Maybe Fatshark’s community doesn’t have the balls to respond with this level of vitriol just yet, but keep it up and they’ll get there.

I would prefer more posts that humanize the people that make games actually. I don’t think it’s normal to think posting pictures of developers’ pets is deserving of vitriol.

On its own, or on dedicated social media it absolutely isn’t.

Humanization can be reflected in game communication.

Sure if they could do the bare minimum of communication on their live service game and then have these humanising posts on top sure thats fine.

Its a easy filler update… though after playing through the updates Space Marine 2 has had in the same period since skulls event I’m much happier with its content drops and informational posts.

Entire community: hey so can we know anything about game development in this ‘live service’, in the last two months? Can we know something substantive?

Darktide comms team for some reason: omg look at our fur babies :))))) we don’t have any other news :)))))

The reaction to a clearly titled blog post that contains pictures of cats and dogs is not to demand the community come together and condemn the corporation. I do not think not talking about future free content enough for your liking is sufficient justification personally. In any other context, acting this way would come off a little extreme.

There’s no need to push everyone’s dissatisfaction to the extreme; the reasons behind this are clear to everyone, and I don’t even want to repeat them.

If I worked at an office and I gave my boss a bunch of cute pictures of my cat in lieu of the quarterly report I was expected to provide, no amount of saying “it’s not normal to be so mean when I’m showing you my pets!” would save me from getting canned right on the spot.

I’m inclined to agree about how it doesn’t deserve vitriol, but I’d also suggest that things like this should be shared alongside anything that can be shared regarding future updates and not as a substitute - Had that been the case, I don’t think the pet pictures would have raised a single eyebrow.

they are lowkey telling they have a life and we should get one

Absolutely not. I have no life and I refuse to start one now!

If the game was in a better place this would be accepted and not treated as a symptom of a desease

But we are not in an employer-employee relationship with Fatshark. I understand what you’re saying though but the dynamic being different actually does make a difference. Regardless, since the end of 2023, they have reliably posted 2-4 weeks in advance of major updates which have been 3-4 months apart with almost no communication between those time periods in regards to future content. The only example that comes to mind is when they announced the item rework way ahead of time, virtually every other addition has been a complete surprise. The live service that has been in place for the past almost 2 years hasn’t, as of yet, been deviated from.

This. So much this.

We’ve been in the dark about Darktide’s next Update since June. We’ve heard NOTHING for MONTHS, not even a cheeky little Teaser. The pets are cute, I love them, I have no hate for them. But posting a Pet Blog without at least giving us something substantive alongside it within THIS CONTEXT? Are we deadass, Fatshark?

exactly this, if the game would have proper communication, this would be a fine post to make.

but when we see posts after posts begging the devs to say a single thing over a period of months, this is a horrible time to post that.

you might not want to carry this logic over to real life encounters though, lest it ends you in hospital or worse.

critique, indifference etc is absolutely fine.

the later is my take on the matter, yeah cute pets (though I personally would not share that layer of personal life online) but I rather care about game related stuff.

then again I’m the generation that got a game and that was it, maybe a patch here and there but basically “there’s your quake, play it or don’t “

so the “hunt for the game’s service” eludes me as long as I enjoy the core gameplay.

though currently i take a little break for health reasons.

but “vitriol” reminds me of people starting an argument for the most useless reasons (road rage, super market cashout etc.) and often times end up face down (or up) in lala-land.

wether that takes “balls” I leave to anyone’s interpretation

I’d rather see the balls with the dude not taking this :poop: and stuffing peoples mouths every now and then cause in the last couple decades there seems to be the illusion that there’s no repercussions for “vitriolic” behavior when it was among the first things we painfully learned back in the day :joy:

Vitriol? No.

Should the thread be in an “Off-Topic” area? Absolutely.

It’s a perfectly acceptable post.

Within the fortnight after a content drop.
