i don’t know if the issue i’m having is because of the most recent patch 1.12.4 (the 9GB file that dropped today, August 11th, 2026) but when I try to load/boot up darktide on steam deck, the game will start up with all the normal credit screens/pre-operative selection cutscenes with the voice acting, sound effects, and music, but all i get is a completely black screen. i can’t even load into the mourningstar properly because by the time i assume i get to operative selection it’s still nothing but a black screen.
i tried verifying the files AND uninstalling/reinstalling, but neither worked. i thought uninstalling/reinstalling had fixed the issue but when i changed some of the game settings (audio/visuals) and the game prompted a restart to apply the changes, when i tried booting the game up again the same issue as before returned.
I’m having the same issue with my steam machine. It might be a steam OS problem? I also play unmodded, and went through the exact same cycle with the uninstall and reinstall working, then restarting the game and getting the black screen.
i submitted a request to steam support and i havent attempted this myself yet since im reinstalling the game and its 5 hours left from finishing, but this is the response i got; if anyone else having the same issue as me does this and it works, please let me know!
Please start by trying these steps in order:
Revert or disable any changes you’ve made in the BIOS or via third party utilities. These changes may be affecting your system’s performance and/or stability.
Check that your Deck’s OS is up to date by pressing the “Steam” button > Settings > System and then under “Software Updates” select “Check for Updates”. If an update is available, please select to Install/Apply. Once that is done applying, fully shut down the unit by going to the Power menu and select “Shutdown” and then retest the issue.
If the issue persists, try forcing the game to run with Proton by pressing Menu with the game selected in your Library, then going to Properties…> Compatibility > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, and selecting the most recent Proton version. If you experience the same problem, try selecting the previous Proton release instead.
If the game is stored remotely (on a microSD card or other external disk), move the installation to the Steam Deck’s SSD and retest. You can move an installation by going to Steam > Settings > Storage, selecting the game, and pressing Y to select a new location.
Verify the integrity of the game files by highlighting the game in your Library and using the option in Menu (button) > Properties… > Installed Files.
You should try a different proton, like GE-proton. I see only that.
Using an nvme/ssd is important, and not in ntfs. Btrfs or what you distro uses. I doubt this is the problem as you use a steam deck.
Verifying files, they could avoid this part, as you said you had already tried this. So I won’t say you uninstall/reinstall (useful if you come from windows however).

which proton version did you use and was it in the system’s “Force use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool” thing? cuz im experiencing the same issue on my steam machine
Perso I use Proton-GE (mine is CachyOS) as default. And when needed, I change what to use in the game compatibility tab. I have only one game where I need that, this is Arc Raider that need the hotfix to launch (or the anti cheat forbids the launch)
