I think the most unfortunate aspect of the new Blaze Away blessing is that it has made the most optimal way to play Purgatus the most boring and easy one. Because stacks proc/refresh on primary fire, and carry between channels if you do minimum charges, you can keep full blessing stacks so long as that is all you do. In almost all situations keeping those full stacks for 40% power is more beneficial than anything else you could do.
One way to address this would be to change it to function the same way that the blessing works(ed?) on Zealot’s flamer. That is, does not proc/refresh from primary fire, and ends the instant your channel finishes. That creates the situation where you benefit from it most when doing full charges, a little when doing short charges, and not at all while spamming primary. In that situation it becomes a far more interesting question of what is the most optimal thing to do next.
It would obviously significantly nerf the potential benefit of the blessing, but I’m focusing on the interestingness of the gameplay, rather than balance, with this feedback.
My 2c on balance is that the dot’s relatively slow ttk (compared to instant death) means it is still out classed by most meta builds in the hands of skilled and aggressive players. So if we’re nerfing for balance, then there are plenty of things much higher on that list, and it would be rough to nerf this without also addressing them.
I guess my TLDR is: If Inferno’s Blaze Away is going to get nerfed as part of a general nerfing OP things patch, then doing it by adjusting it’s activation mechanics is the best approach.
