Yeah yeah yeah I know ! Fatshark have made a very lackluster crossover with Rogue trader and we don’t expect much but hear me out !
Some months ago Pilestedt, the game director of Arrowhead, answer a question of a comment suggesting which game or universe are they likely to work with if they can and he answer this :
Yes Darktide isn’t a full Astra Militarum game but frankly he is the closest to it right now since they focus on the humans aspects of 40k, not the space marines for once. And guess which class is much likely to get a rework in a near future (I hope …) ? That’s right ; our good soldier the Veteran.
It could be a good opportunity in one hand for Darktide having the rework of that class and if we are lucky new weapons and why not finally have the hot shot lasgun and his variant with bullets which the dregs gunners use and can have a very similar role to the starting stratagem of Helldivers 2 : the MG-43 Machine gun. That way they don’t have to design something out of 40k universe but still honor Managed Democracy in their own way. Cherry on the top you put an event named “For Holy Terra !” (aka “For Super Earth”) where you have to slay heretics with the new weapons for a HD2-like skin and you are gold.
On the other hands Helldivers can make their wet dream to add lasguns/pistols, bolters or plasmagun in their game. They can also make armors with one who ressemble the vanilla Vet of Darktide and go nuts with others very known regiments of 40k : Death Korps of Krieg, Armageddon, Elysian etc …
I see it as a win-win situation for both companies in my eyes … But it’s a good dream i will probably never see and i should stop drinking that early.
they probably could get away with some of the backpack options, make them look rundown and gritty that may fit, but dont think that is anything a helldivers fan would want.
lets be honest people want either helmets armors or capes, and warhammer 40k has a extremly internalised asthetic, on account of 45years of lore culminating, so cooperations only really work as eastereggs. a dead guy with a aliens pulse rifle next to with acid wounds etc, but actually getting to use it? that doesnt work for 40k its too distracting from the established visceral feel of 40k to have non 40k things in it.
i neither like the artstyle nor the loathsome silly humor helldivers applies to its atmosphere, so no thank you.
i like my slave worlds tortured, overworked and ground to corpse starch if they’re lucky or fall victim to some unspeakable nurgle rot or chaos mutation while never seeing the light of day.
such a beauty of a franchise universe shouldn’t be soiled by “har har” humor from any other source.
(yep i know 40k started as a parody but if i blend that out i get the best gritty visuals since quake )
listening to scholars lore or baldermort for lore audio while falling asleep gives me the fuzziest of warm feelings :
helldivers in comparison looks like a bad roadside billboard
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguin in favour of IP breaking stuff in Darktide, just stating that Karking COD got warhammer skins a while back, nothing more.
have an gamemode where people play as helldivers have 1 or 2 open maps and some not too op strategems and that could be fun fighting DT enemies as helldivers
but no permanent additions, i dont care about diver themed borders and weapon trinkets as long as nothing is too blatant
It will but it will in no shape or form be directly tied to Darktide. Only just the Warhammer40k univserse.
Darktide is a “smalltime” game in comparison to the Helldivers 2 base; so I doubt they would stoop to fatshark’s level and do a Collab.
