This subject has been touched time and time again but, after looting an almost perfect Antax Mk5 on my psycher, I felt like I needed a platform to cry out to FatShark how much I would love being able to equip it on my sharpshooter and zealot xD
More seriously, I really think that being able to access and equip the general non class specific weapons account-wide would make for a great quality of life improvement.
I know that many design choices in Darktide simply aim at increasing grinding time and, as one might think, making the player grind the same best in slot weapon three times results in more time playing. I would advocate the contrary:
-Cross inventory facilitates rerolling, making the task of levelling and equiping a new character less daunting
-It reduces frustration and burn out regarding the game (grinding the same best in slot weapon three times is not agreable)
-It facilitates build variety and experimentation by creating positive playtime loops between characters. For instance getting my new shiny Antax on my psycher makes me want to play with it on my zealot. Doing so I might in turn loot a good lasgun or bolter that will entice me to spend more time on my sharpshooter and so on.
As a word of conclusion, I really do think that making non class specific weapons accessible accross all characters account-wide would actually increase the time one wants to play the game by reducing senseless grind and encouraging time spent discovering new characters, playstyles, class specific weapons all the while reducing player burn out
Not having shared resources makes me NOT want to play other classes until it is implemented.
Cuz I know that all the time I spend leveling is time not spend acquiring more resources for the class that runs Damnation.
Ever since they mentioning siloing in the first Comms link, they haven’t really brought it up again. We really need shared progression. Or at the very least, let us share the curios, materials and Melk progress/coins across our Rejects.
And I shudder to think what they plan to do once subclasses start dropping in.
Like, will they all have their own inventories, contracts and melk coin progressions as well? Because the implications of Fatshark having us grind double the amount of characters, not just the current 4… oh boy.
I figured they would just increase drops and stop talking about it. Cash, materials and especially Melkmoney is just too low to justify this system. It actively fights your desire to play, like I’m so broke on Veteran but enjoying CALLIN YA TAHGGIT very little compared to the other 3. Just let me do weeklies on him and general resource grinding with everyone else. Is it so hard? Unless you want to make Plasma Gun not a horrible Lucius that is only able to produce a powerful hit within 1s of swap as an upside vs it.
This will only be horribly exacerbated by new classes dropping, which also come with their own problems surrounding character slots and leveling. Hard to see anything player friendly being intended here.
I think originally Fatshark essentially wanted to make a Diablo-style gear treadmill, but failed to learn any lessons from games of that type. Those games invented shared items and resources decades ago. Fast forward to 2023, and Darktide has successfully uninvented them.
It stands to reason that siloed items/resources make it harder for players to invest in multiple characters, not easier. You want to make it an easy choice for players to pick up that next class DLC so that they’ll keep investing in your game. But apparently not so with Darktide.
The Blessings of the Omnissiah patch reduced some of the grind required, which helps, but doesn’t fix the underlying problem. Meanwhile, I suspect the plans for a Diablo-style grind were partially cancelled due to RNG backlash, and now we’ve ended up with a strange hybrid of a game that doesn’t really know what it wants to be.
I think sharing curios and currency would go a fair way to helping Ogryn out. At the very least I would be much more incentivized to grind out for 2 weapons rather than 4, with 3 being duplicates, as well as all 4 classes having weappns only unique to them.
Yeah agreed. Inventories should be shared OR there should be an option to send items over. Nothing more frustrating than finally getting ZE SWORD and it’s on your Veteran or something.
