Crashes in Vermintide 2 and Darktide

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - During Play

Issue Description (Required):

As stated in title - crashes occur during play at random (may be once or twice during a session for 3-4 hours), no consistency that I’ve noticed. It freezes then crashes to desktop, once I saw crash report saying “disk writing error” (or something similar). When I try to relaunch the game, it doesn’t let me, giving me “disk error” in steam library, I can’t completely close all the processes and if I relaunch whole Steam, it’ll still give me some error when I try to launch it. The other bothering moment is when I try to reboot PC, it freezes at BIOS prompt at the start, so I had to manually turn it off and turn back on. After that in steam library it says I have to install the game and then it goes through whole verification process. So every time I crash, I have to reboot my PC and wait til the game verifies itself, before I can launch it again.
Both games are on SSD (and it’s fairly new, may be 1 month+ old), and I see no connection between this and my system SSD having troubles booting system. I don’t have any issues with other games on the same SSD and utility programme didn’t detect any problems.

Sorry to hear this @Mor

Your log shows a Deadlock crash, which are a little notorious and the root cause isn’t clear. In regards to the Steam “Disk Write Error”, there may be an issue with your drive, so I recommend checking this:

  1. Navigate to ‘This PC’ (or ‘My Computer’)
  2. Right-click your drive
  3. Select ‘Properties’
  4. Select the ‘Tools’ tab
  5. Under ‘Error checking’, select ‘Check’
  6. A “You don’t need to scan this drive” notification may pop up if on Windows 8/10. Proceed with the scan anyway by selecting ‘Scan Drive’

If no errors are shown, then another test (if possible) can be to try installing Vermintide 2/Darktide on a different drive. I appreciate this may not be possible though!

Other than corrupted game files or a drive issue, a common cause for Steam disk write error can also be Anti-Virus software conflicts, so please ensure you have appropriate exceptions in place for both Vermintide 2 and Darktide.

You’ll want to add the following exceptions:

Vermintide 2:

  • vermintide2.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries
  • vermintide2_dx12.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries_dx12
  • EasyAntiCheat.exe in \Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat

Darktide:

  • Darktide.exe in Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\binaries

Failing the above, some other suggestions which may also help -

  • Ensure you have latest Windows updates installed
  • Check you have the latest Steam client updates
  • Try clearing your Steam ‘Download Cache’:
  1. In your Steam client, open the Steam menu in the top left corner
  2. Select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu
  3. Select 'Downloads 'from the left sidebar
  4. Find the Clear download cache section and click ‘Clear cache’
  5. Select ‘OK’ to confirm

You’ll need to log into Steam again after clearing the cache.

Please let me know how you get on!

It might be a case of faulty connection, had to reconnect SSD, no crashes so far, need to test it further.

Ah! :crossed_fingers: please let me know!
