Crash to desktop every round, console_logs show "Access violation (0xc0000005)"

Installed new motherboard, PSU, CPU, and GPU recently. I’ve been crashing every round since, with no error displayed, just black screen then crash to desktop and the crashify report popup appears. I’m not experiencing problems with any other game I play, so I’m skeptical that it’s the hardware. After searching for the << Crash>> in the console_log I found the “Access violation (0xc0000005)” error noted. Here’s the most recent crash info:

GUID: ac068f37-1157-4472-aa7d-2feed60152fa
Log File:
Info Type:

[Crash Link]:

crashify://ac068f37-1157-4472-aa7d-2feed60152fa

Here’s the console_log where the crash occurred:
console-2022-11-09-02.48.02-4555ee52-48f3-4181-be0c-5ebe6b431146.log (619.1 KB)

Steps I’ve taken so far:

  • Updated mobo and GPU drivers upon installation.
  • Update BIOS to most recent version
  • After experiencing crashes, uninstalled then reinstalled GPU driver
  • Uninstalled game then reinstalled it on a different drive
  • Turned off XMP mode for RAM in BIOS
  • Set RAM speed to auto, it runs at 2400 mhz. I have two 8gb sticks and they are in the correct slots
  • Turned off Steam overlay
  • Ensured all unnecessary background applications/processes are off
  • Checked CPU, GPU, and Mobo temps, all are fine. CPU temp at time of crash was 66 C
  • Lowered graphical settings
  • Ran easy Easy Anti Cheat repair
  • Reinstalled Easy Anti Cheat
  • Verified integrity of game files multiple times
  • Performed full scan of system for malware
  • Ran SFC, CHKDSK, and DISM tools
  • Updated C++ Redistributables
  • Set deadlock_timeout = 60
  • Changed Direct X version
  • Checked thread count, saw it was at 5, bumped it up to 6, still crashed

Can the Fatshark team or any forum folks lend a hand? Any help is appreciated.

Would you also be able to upload your vermintide2_launcher.log please? It can be located here:

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Vermintide 2

Hello, thanks for replying!

Absolutely, here it is:

Hi @FatsharkJulia, do you have any recommendations?

Sorry @Torxen, I missed this. Thank you for uploading your launcher.log, everything looks as it should.

Admittedly, you’ve exhausted a lot of options, and I’m not sure what else to recommend. There will be some sort of niche driver or hardware compatibility issue, but it’s hard to know where to start.

The information in the logs does not point us in any direction unfortunately.

I’m happy to refund Vermintide 2 for you, if that’s an option you’d be interested in.

No worries! I appreciate the offer, but I’ve had a lot of great experiences with Vermintide 1 and 2 before my hardware update and gotten my money’s worth, so a refund isn’t necessary. Thank you, though!

Weirdly, reseating my RAM has allowed me to play through some matches now. I can play all the way through one or two then I’ll randomly crash to desktop. Maybe my RAM is damaged? Or the MOBO? I dunno. I’m experiencing the same crash error in Darktide now so I guess I’ll start pulling pieces out one by one and testing my hardware to see which part is failing me.

Thank you, @FatsharkJulia!
