Crash before Character Selection - and now launcher doesn't work either

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - On Launch

Issue Description (Required):

I reinstalled VT2 a couple days ago, after upgrading to Windows11 and changing my rig (5070Ti + Ryzen5 9600x). Drivers are up to date.

I started VT2, launcher started, I went for the benchmark. First crash. It showed a crash report.

I tried going for the game itself, it starts the video, then the menu, I go for Adventure, Skaven Icon start spinning. When I hear the sound of the “loading” of the character screen, the Skaven Icon stop spinning and after 15 seconds the game crashes. It showed a crash report.

I tried lowering the graphics to the ground, no changes. I restarted the PC.

NOW, it won’t start the launcher anymore: the only way I have to start the game is with the Beta “temporary_launcher_workaround”. Same as above: i go Adventure (or other game mode), Skaven Icon start spinning. When I hear the sound of the “loading” of the character screen, the Skaven Icon stop spinning and after 15 seconds the game crashes. No more crashreport, too.

I cannot deactivate the mods, since the launcher is not showing.

I tried several repair, uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, even cancelling the folders (both the SteamApp and the Roaming ones).

@Nixaerie, regarding the Deadlock crash there appears to be a Steam-related error occurring.

It’s possible that the issue is voip related, but we’re not 100% certain. Can you please try disabling voip and see if there’s any difference:

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Search for %appdata%
  3. Navigate to the Vermintide 2 directory \Fatshark\Vermintide 2
  4. Edit your user_settings.config file
  5. Locate the setting ‘voip_is_enabled’
  6. Set this to ‘voip_is_enabled = false
  7. Save your user_settings.config file
  8. Launch Vermintide 2 as normal

Otherwise, we can only suggest to try the following:

The launcher issue is different, and if you’ve tried our launcher-related solutions already you may need to rely on the launcher workaround:

Thanks a lot, the “voip” thing resolved the issue of the game not running.

Still, the launcher won’t work nor with the repair, nor with the .Net Framework repair. For now I suppose I’ll stay with the beta thingy, even if what I cannot understand is why it worked the first 4 to 5 times…this bothers me the most

@Nixaerie thanks for the update! Glad to hear that disabling voip helped with the game issue

Maybe we can sus out why the launcher stopped working. When you try to start the launcher is a launcher log being generated? If so, could you please provide this so we can take a look?

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Vermintide 2
  4. Locate the vermintide2_launcher.log in this directory

Thanks!

Hi, and thanks for your continuous support, it’s really welcome!

I tried disabling the “beta launcher workaround”: the launcher never started, and no vermintide2_launcer.log was generated. The only file inside the %appdata% folder that was “saved” during that time was the user_setting.config (which was probably updated, i don’t really know). I’m going to provide it here below, anyway.

user_settings.config (8.5 KB)

thank you!

Hi @Nixaerie,

No problem! I’ve shared your user_settings with our engine developers and I’ve asked if they have any insight/suggestions, though without a launcher log there isn’t much for us to go on unfortunately :frowning:

I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve heard back from them. Thanks!
