[Crafting Rework] Yet another delay makes me think there is something "shady"

I don’t want to point the finger at anyone, I don’t know if it’s up to Fatshark, if there are orders from above or just something I can’t figure out, but this is the situation:

Darktide was released two years ago, and from day one, everyone has been complaining about the crafting system, which is simply shameful

We also have a heavy lack of contents, if we consider that in these two years only two maps and two brand-new weapons were released

In this situation, any development house that cares about its community would have simply removed the locks (which is literally the fastest, most efficient and least expensive way to fix the problem) and focused on coming up with new content

But no! The crafting system reowork has become a joke. They threw months of time at it and now we have yet another delay

This means that they do NOT want to fix the problem, they just want to find a “more acceptable” alternative that still forces you to return to the shop on a regular basis

And this relates back to the cosmetics shop that, without making it long and going off topic, we all know how greedy and unfair

By now it’s clear that they don’t want a limpid game like Vermintide

Vermintide allows you to craft exactly what you want. The shop was very honest and with constant discounts… yet everyone still plays it (purely for gameplay, not to grind), yet it’s almost impossible to find a player who did NOT buy premium cosmetics

But evidently this was not enough. Evidently they realized that a smartphone-style game, blatantly hostile to players, makes more

Removing locks is dumb, and since it is an itemization change and not a strictly crafting rework it’s definitely something that needs a lot of work and consideration. Depending on how big the change is it might require a full re-balance for example.

As much as I understand the sentiment, it’s really just more likely they bit off more than they could chew once again.

As @Nish said, it’s not just a crafting rework, it’s mostly an itemization rework with crafting as the cherry on top.
The crafting system alone is referenced countless times in many files, now just imagine what reworking all of itemization takes.

The real problem here isn’t that they take their sweet time. It’s once again that they teasered something that clearly wasn’t ready, instead of focussing on the good stuff they do have cooked up.
They really need to rethink their communication strategy. Don’t label something “part of the update”, when it’s the last part to a long-winded series of updates that stretches over several months.

Fatshark isn’t necessarily the slowest, they are just the strategically most unsound communicators I have ever seen.

Also itemization update makes me think, they will redo some of those attributes, Blessings and more, along changes to rarity as well.
I hope it turns out as grand as it sounds. Otherwise I’ll be sad.

The charitable interpretation:
They know they only have one shot at this, and rather than crunch to get it out before summer before being completely unable to respond due to whichever idiot sets up the vacation rotation in such a way it cripples the company, they’re delaying it to make sure they can actually address problems.

The uncharitable interpretation:
They’re figuring out the most statistically beneficial way to drag out the player experience and force them to pay for weapons directly.

The terrible thing - At this point I can imagine both.

I really, really don’t want to attribute Malice to the bois and gals at Fishtank HQ. But they’ve let us down so often, it’s hard to stay optimistic at times.

The crafting was in a state of constant reworks and scrapping even before the game was released. There was a behind the scenes blog posted before about what happened with the crafting and the devs did say they completely scrapped the crafting once or twice before the game was released because of the upper management.

I think the exact same situation is happening now.

No one hates, this RNG garbage more than me…

But I would rather they take their time and get it right…

Than have the same people crying that it hasn’t been released yet, then crying if it was released early and complaining why did they release something that wasn’t finished…

And of course… It has to be a conspiracy…

I rarely try to attribute malice to the devs and CMs. They’re clearly people who, as the saying goes, Just Work Here.

The problem is that the company, as a whole, thanks to executive direction and incompetence, lies.

It’s a crafting rework too…

They have said so, as it is inline with the vision they have put up on the website…

That’s what @Nish said. You need to read a little more carefully.

Yes this is exactly what they’re doing

They where slow to realise the current systems for player engagement and retention to drive premium shop engagement
Are having the opposite effect

So they are tying to come up with the most meticulously designed changes to itemisation that manage to keep the player for as long as possible without driving the player away with pure frustration with as little upkeep as possible.

The funny part is they’d be better off if they stopped worshipping RNG, let players do whatever they liked with relatively fixed weapons, and dedicated themselves to handing out as much content as possible.

The more stuff people have to do the more generous they feel and the more likely they are to invest money.

Fatshark’s player base isn’t the sports games/CoD/gacha stereotypes that make other companies bank. They shouldn’t be trying to build systems around the assumption that they are.

Watching some PTR footage of streamers trying to get weapons/blessings was painful…

I suspect there’s a crisis of leadership at FS leading to more delays of the critical itemisation rework. Imo much better to wait it out then get something half-baked. October may even be too soon if they don’t fill out the team adequately by then.

Either way it’s half baked

Ill say it again as long as blessings and perks remain unbalanced rng crafting will never work
when uncanny exists why should i ever use exorcist?
when flak exists why should i ever use crit damage(which is also calculated wrong)

Delay and it’s shady.
Rush it like release and it’s dumb.
Whatzit gonnabe lads.

How about neither?

Develop content in reasonable manner and release it with the expected polish?

Oh I forgot, we must silence the critics with strawman fallacies.

Whenever someone says “I’d rather have it come later and be good,” I always want to remind them of what it’s been in the past.

It takes awhile to come out and isn’t good than.

They took their time many times and didn’t get it right. Waiting is boring and we can’t really expect much either way. Go ahead and release what you got and let’s complain about it.

Save everyone’s inventory so you can undo it though.

Agreed. This isn’t a failure at the coding level like the sound problems, this is a leadership failure.
