Controls randomly go all wonky

Issue Type (Required):

Other

Issue Description (Required):

Hello, has anyone else had issues where the control of your character looks and feels like they’ve stopped reacting to your input but keep moving and the camera goes all wonky?

The character moves slowly in one direction and the camera slowly pans down, or side to side etc.

I’m using a wired ps4 controller, and at first I thought it might have been a dodgy cable but after trying many cables and the issue not resolving, I thought it might have been a network problem.

So I checked the network tab in task manager as I was just starting a game and then again during one of those problem moments, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary there. Therefore I ask the question again, has anyone else had this happen to them especially recently?

One other thing, I’ve verified the integrity of the game files through steam and all ok.

might be the same thing I had from time to time.

though I cant pinpoint it on darktide alone, although its more prevalent there.

short timeline:

had a crash with nvmdll-etc., happens once in a full moon, windows crash history showed 3 last year, so rare.

thought “unacceptable” and installed the most recent nvidia driver.

so far so good, BUUUT

shortly after my mouse had these odd moments where no input was going through, first in diablo 4, then desktop.

logitech g305 to be exact.

thought it was dying on me, switching it off/on took care of it for the moment though.

now for the relevant part:

new mouse, driver reset with ddu and still when swinging my pickaxe in darktide and turning quickly from side to side, it stops mid swing.

keyboard commands, visuals, sound, all continue “normal” only I stand there pants down and getting hit cause my character won’t turn.

usually it’s a thing of a second or two, but enough to feel “unreliable”

heavy swings seem to trigger it more when moving the mouse very rapidly from side to side but also shivs on scum sometimes behave as if the mouse sensitivity changes by itself randomly down and up again.

fps etc all normal as well as latency as far as the mod allows to see.

so what gives and what’s the common denominator here?

edit: maybe a factor was having the cpu max reduced to 98% when playing diablo 4 as to not allow it in idle phases to heat it up to 90° and basically do nothing and turned of windows 11 fast boot to force it to load the drivers “fresh” at every start.

this was a shake oil attempt of making the gpu driver not crash based on avoidable things.

“now for the relevant part:”

You could have started with that :upside_down_face:  :squinting_face_with_tongue:

So it’s happening with you whilst using a mouse and on Windows 11 also, that’s very bizarre indeed. When you said that you had no lag or latency issues when it was happening, my account is the contrary. I had lag spikes where I wouldn’t usually have lag - such as when you and your team are having to relay the power nodes in the aforementioned Clandestium Gloriana mission. I did notice an odd pattern, when I looked at a certain player when there was a huge horde around them, it lagged like a bastard. If I looked away and especially moved away from them, the lag would stop, so too would the wonkiness

So it made me think maybe that particular player is lagging like a b*tch and it’s affecting the connection to a point where it makes controls do that. A strange latency issue perhaps?

ever heard of suspense?

:joy:

right now snake oil theory is, while it shows in darktide the most for unknown reasons, shortly after updating the gpu drive I had “similar” issues in plain windows and across different games :man_shrugging:

if darktide adds a trigger on its own I cant be sure of

Suspense, LOL. Way too long in the oven :face_with_tongue:

Really not sure. I’m just glad that it’s a rare phenomenon. If it was happening all the time it would genuinely stop me playing the game. It is aggravating AF when it happens.
