"Consecutive" Missions

Have you ever looked at a mission card before?
It is all explained right there.

The explanation for maelstrom conditions is displayed in the exact same place as the description for any other condition.

There is no way to join a maelstrom mission without having that explanation show up on your screen.

Nope never seen a mission card. Don’t know what a mission card looks like. 99% of the time I play quick play because I don’t have any friends who play.

Usually just click on the maelstrom then click enter and it takes me to loading. Not sure where the mission card is or how to view it.

Maelstrom can not be joined via quickplay. So you can not get past this:

That is the mission?? Doesn’t explain what you have to do or what the end goal is. Just sounds like it’s explaining a characteristic more than a goal.

So do you just have to survive? Is there a timer? Or do you have to reach an evac?

No. That is the special condition. As is stated in the box.
And yes it explains a characteristic. Because that is what a special condition is.

Maybe you notice that the issue is not a lack of explanations.

Not in regard to maps and modifiers at least.

Modifiers and objective are explained

  • on the mission card when you pick a mission
  • on the voting window that pops up when someone else picks a mission while you are in a group with them
  • on the tab-screen inside the mission

This penance is too random for a solo player in maelstorm.

And easy for a group of players.

Fatshark needs to attract experienced players to beta test innovations and better understand the psychology of players.

An experienced player will receive any achievement in the first days; the rest will cry or look for easy ways.

If a player does not want to play maelstorm, there is no need to attract him with cosmetics.

If you want to reward maelstorm players, do it in the form of a progression, so that cosmetics are given for long progress, interesting only for fans of this mode.

Or do it like hardmode twins.

I dunno. I saw a lot of people with the hard mode twins unlock cosmetic melt like snow in hi-intensity Damnation which, let’s be honest, isn’t the pinnacle of difficulty. Who knows what the actual reason was, but I instinctively thought “you got carried for that badge”. I don’t begrudge anyone getting it that way, but I don’t necessarily want to be in a pug team where someone is looking for that from me.

Pretty much. The thing that kills this game the most is the lack of social integration. The mourningstar lobby isn’t a social space, it’s designed purely for people to show off their premium cosmetics and peer pressure other players in to spending money. If I ask people if they want to form a team I either get ignored or spammed with erotic roleplaying and other trolling (not even joking about that). There is an option for strike teams to stay together after a mission, but it was broken for more than a year, so no one ever thinks to use it.

So basically you either have three friends willing to play darktide with you, at a similar skill level. Or… you don’t and you’re out of luck. I tried once to use the LFG channel on the darktide discord and it demanded that I enter my personal phone number before it would let me post a single word, so I deleted the server immediately and never went back.

This is my issue with discord and LFGs as well. It’s insane that devs these days expect players to use external tools for things like LFGs.

The system in V2 with the keep was much better. If you had found a good team you play well with you stuck together and kept playing, adding each other as friends after a round or two.

Never had that happen once in Darktide.

Hi, I believe the Darktide Discord uses the safety setup PROVIDED BY DISCORD. This is a simple safety feature that protects discord servers from malicious activity.

If you’re using an unverified discord account, you will not be able to post in that channel.

That statement was more “I’m not willing to hand over my personal information just to fix your game’s lack of a LFG function” and not “I don’t know how discord works”.

Well… after another fail due to barreling on psyker at 4/5 I just went back to knife invis zealot and immediately knocked it out in 5 games without issues.

Last one was tough… had a guy alt+f4 after he went down at the beginning and we had to finish monstrous specials scab melee armor only mission with a bot until the end. It’s moments like these invis zealot gets to shine the most. I mostly spent the final event farming rescues lol.
Otherwise the two vets did amazing with krak grenade spam. It’s so useful for this modifier.

All that’s left to do now is the 4500 pts mark and I’m done with this ‘content’. Thankfully it’s just getting all ogryn and zealot penances wrapped up and collecting all skulls. The odd random penance should get me to the finish line.

this advice is to make an attempt at playing once every hour or so? (about the average auric maelstrom reset…

and the second piece is to “just find” new folks on a game whose population has already been decimated of seemingly helpful folks

I simply told you what the game allows you to do in order to not become backfill. If you do not like the options available, that is not my fault. Complain to Fatshark, not to me.
I do not make the rules, so what the hell are you getting mad at me for?

You said that you never got past 4/5 deathless auric maelstroms and that you failed at that point around 6 times, because you got into an ongoing mission on the 5/5.

So i told you how to avoid being backfill in order to prevent an other fail at 4/5.
You are free to do with that information, what ever you want.
I did not tell you to do this 5 times in a row, or every single time that you play in general.
You are free to play the game how ever you want.

You could just play the game normally and when you get towards the 4/5 for a 7th time, you could wait ONCE and make sure to not backfill a failing group for the last mission.
Not too complicated, i think.

While waiting for the maelstrom to reset, you can still play other missions that are not auric maelstrom. Nobody is forcing you to do nothing, while waiting for the maelstrom reset.
Even if you ALWAYS want to make sure to not backfill on maelstrom missions, you can still play a regular auric mission in between, to fill the gap until a new maelstrom is on the board.

So no. I did not suggest that you play 1 mission per hour.
You did not get that right.
You just did not think about how to apply my advice.
Think before you call people trolls for giving you actually good advice.

oh dang must of been blinded by that rage when I took to “darktide forums to voice my complaints on X subject” and managed to target you specifically on that complaint.

Mission selection in general feels like just another system they rushed out the door for “release” and the Auric board is just a bandaid.

Tbh this penance should only be completable in a private lobby just like the psyker monster kill with barinburst penance. I think fatshart did the community a disservice by allowing this to be completable in public lobbies.

Another grievance that I have with this penance is backfilling maelstrom lobbies where I may join in halfway through a mission, I finish the rest of the mission without dying, and this penance does not progress, suggesting the previous player died or the bot may have died. This could also be a preventative measure against a player joining a mission during the final minutes and completing the mission without dying.

I think if the community complains enough, Fatshart is going to drop the amount of consecutive missions completed for this penance.5 missions down to 3. I mean, look at how they dropped the mission count required for the specific mission type completion and how they dropped the kill 1.000.000 heretics to 500,000 heretics penance.

That would be an other terrible change that only serves to devalue any penances that are (or were) somewhat difficult to get.

It seriously seems like people are massively blowing this “issue” out or proportion.
I did not even notice an increase in quitters at all.

According to some other people, there must be around 5 quitters in every single match.
Any time that someone disconnects: Blame the penance.
Any time that you get to backfill a mission: Blame the penance.


If anything, such penances could be limited to private lobbies.
But in that case, there would be a lot of people complaining again, that they will never be able to get this penance, because they just refuse to search for a party anywhere outside of the game itself.

The tunnel vision this penance has created should be looked at. It was there before but now that penances are a focus, its causing some in-game “moments”…to say the least.
