Completely unable to enter Launcher from Steam

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - on Launch

Issue Description (Required):

Completely incapable of launching the game even to the launcher. Steam shows the game as being played for a moment, then acts as though nothing launched in the first place.
Computer meets specs, but for sake of clarity:

Nvidia 2070 Super GPU
Radeon 5-series 2600 CPU
16 GB of Ram
8 GB of V-Ram
Game installed on SSD (Kingston-brand iirc).
Windows 11 OS

I tried a number of known fixes, but for sake of argument assume I tested pretty much all of the fixes in the list of known issues, primarily:
Deleting GPU-related files that were said to be deleted on the guide.
Deleting %appdata%/roaming files for Darktide
Validating files, fresh-installing & Restarting PC
Updating GPU Drivers, troubleshooting .NET Framework
etc.

At a complete standstill. Was able to launch the game itself through Steam, but obviously, with no sign-in data I wasn’t able to actually boot into the game. The launcher just refuses to work for me and has pretty much all but totally killed the hype of the game for me.

Anyone have any answer for this?? My buddy was stoked to play it with me and I feel like I’m letting him down, especially after he bought me the game

If a new darktide_launcher.log has been created since removing your AppData, would you be able to share it here please?

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide
  4. Locate the darktide_launcher.log in this directory

Can do! Just give me a few.

darktide_launcher.log (7.8 KB)

Thank you, no clues in the log unfortunately :frowning: a couple of questions.

  • If you navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\launcher, is there a Launcher.exe in there?
  • Are there any corresponding errors shown in the Windows Event Viewer?:
  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Conduct a search for ‘Event Viewer’ and select the app
  3. In the sidebar, expand the ‘Windows Logs’ dropdown
  4. Select ‘System’
  5. Search for errors that correspond with launching Darktide
  • Yes, the Launcher.exe file is in fact there. For context, I’ve even tried just launching Launcher.exe from the files, to no avail.

  • I couldn’t find anything in System, but I did find this error in Application that I found right after attempting another launch:

This would give me reason to believe it’s an issue with my .NET installation… but I JUST updated .NET AND ran the troubleshooter software for it. Should I try a fresh re-installation of the .NET framework??

There is also this.

Interesting! It looks like the launcher is actually crashing due to a NVIDIA DLL (nvd3dumx.dll), a nd the .NET Runtime error could be a consequence of the launcher crashing!

I know you’ve already updated your drivers but try a clean re-installation instead, historic versions installed on your PC can cause trouble sometimes:

[PC] How to Perform a Clean Re-Installation of Your NVIDIA GPU Drivers

and - are you running any overlays on your PC?

Not at all! I’ll start a clean reinstallation of my Graphics drivers right away.

That seems to have done it; I was able to boot into the launcher, thank you very much! I’ll be sure to report back if it doesn’t work out still!

Game works finally now!
Was able to boot in and play. Thank you for the help with diagnosing my problem!
