It says it’s a community update article, like this post, not a patch, although a patch might happen.
But I think it’s getting too late in the day for a patch. An update article doesnt need people in the office to oversee it going live like a patch, but even that’s getting kinda late.
I disagree. Based on their (@Aqshy’s) wording, an update/patch will arrive this week, and a community update today.
Quote from Community update #5, posted on Thursday last week:
"Our biggest update yet will land next week and will include further improvements, additional weapons, fixes, private sessions, and more.
In today’s update, we want to address a few questions from the community, as well as talk about what’s to come in our next community update on Wednesday, December 14."
They do this because it allows them to say that it’s not a premium currency because you can earn-it freely by playing the game. It’s sort of a legal loophole. If you’re going to see it anywhere it will likely be in the crafting system where you can exchange aquillas for plasteel and diamantine, or some 4th tier currency that will be extremely time gated to create demand to just buy aquillas. At that point you would see a massive insurge of bots because pay to convenience people bring a bot industry with them wherever they go due to their spending habits and the nature of “pay to convenience” creating a black market opportunity.
Pay for convenience is generally bad for community health because it creates a wealth disparity analogue to real life that manifests in gameplay. It’s toxic in the long run because it incentivizes making problems to sell solutions and ends up ruining both the gameplay and the community, and the fact we don’t have it yet despite supposedly being a “service game” either shows fatshark actually cares, or they’re dragging it out as a business tactic to make sure as many people are time invested as possible before revealing the hook. I want to think it’s the former, but money talks.
Thanks guys. Working in development myself I’m sure it’s been crazy on your end. As fans we are really hoping for some short term hot fixes on gear progression. Something as simple as tripling the gear in the shop, and in turn changing the timer to 3 hours, would help out the average player a great deal. Fixes that while not optimal, are relatively easier to implement soon and considerably improve the players quality of life.
I see them readying the patch (we ran into some technical issues and had to push the date slightly, and we’d rather have as stable a build as possible), so it shouldn’t be far behind once working hours start again tomorrow. If this changes, I’ll let you all know.
So this is one of our critical, top issues that has a lot of variables involved in it. We’re working with multiple teams to get this ironed out and are working to push solves each patch.
