Change character name?

I really don’t understand why this game doesn’t give us the option to change character’s name. We can completely change our appearance, but not our names, why? This is not such a crucial function to make any exceptions for it. Even in reality you can change your name, but this is just a game, and some players only realize that they made a mistake with the character’s name after many hours spent leveling character up and they simply don’t want to start all over again.

Please give us ability to change our character names, Fatshark

Can you just change your name at-will in other similar games?

Well, by “similar games” I can only think of Left for Dead, Payday, Deep Rock Galactic, and obviously Vermintide - all these games use your Steam name, so I would say you can change it whenever you want. Besides, Payday 2 allows you to set an in-game name to use instead of your Steam name, and yes you can change it whenever you want

Cool, I don’t play a lot of those so I was genuinely asking. If the industry standard for this sort of game seems to be “yes, you can change your name” then yeah I whole-heartedly agree.

Many games that involve character creation and allow you to change your character appearance later also allow you to change their name. It’s not that this is an industry standard (for example, you can change your character’s name in Elden Ring, but you didn’t have that option back in Dark Souls), but it seems to me that there is just no justification for the lack of this option IF there is an option to change our appearance. I’d understand if the game didn’t have either of those things, but Fatshark spent time creating entire appearance altering room, couldn’t they just add a little name change window there?

To be fair to them you have only VERY recently been able to change anything about your appearance. And even then you cannot change everything.

Good to see the game still being improved, would love if the devs consider adding name changing feature as well

For me it is more of an understanding they have clearly limited staff working on these changes. This is hardly a pressing concern. What is a pressing concern? Crafting. Crafting needs to change 6 months ago.

Would I like to change my name and height, maybe pick a different voice? Sure, but I would much rather them focus on things that have a real impact on gameplay before focusing on purely cosmetic changes.

I think there is a mod for changing your character height but names are tied to character ID which we don’t have access to.

Honestly I would rather them release proper modding tools that would just allow modders to go ahead and band-aid fix everything for them via mods.
