Tbh every single attack in this game is avoidable, but you’re not going to argue every single attack in this game should ignore toughness for that reason alone.
Well I did qualify easily avoidable and by paying attention
sometimes you do get stabbed in the leg by a poxwalker and that’s how it goes when you fight hundreds of them. I go game after game after game without getting hit by a barrel or a crusher overhead or sniper shot… In the end it’s down to paying attention to your surroudnings and telegraphs. Given how obvious the bright red/yellow barrels with glowy bits are, and how obvious crusher overheads are, I think it’s completely fair that they’ve got an oomph to them if you DO get hit.
No, you haven’t, your entire argument is simply ‘do not get hit by barrels’.
That doesn’t intersect at all with, barrels should not bypass toughness. It has nothing to do with it. You can say that, about literally anything in the game, and it still doesn’t change the fact that there’s an inconsistency.
Nothing else ‘goes through toughness’ it usually just does enough damage to DESTROY toughness, and then also your health bar, or subtract enough toughness that it can chip your health.
Barrels are unique in this, they do not interact with toughness. They should.
Nah, you’re wrong. Toughness literally protects from spillover except from certain attacks that literally have a spillover=true setting. It’s a conscious design choice. Exists on mauler and crusher overheads, aswell as certain specials I can list.
Sniper shots also delete your toughness bar regardless of how much you have and directly bypass it via that mechanic (technically they’re coded to do like 175 damage, but have a 10x damage to toughness multiplier, so you CAN affect the resulting damage a little bit)
Poxbursters also bypass toughness but I forgot how the actual calculation works.
Gold toughness overrides all of this and affords you full protection.
As you can see, toughness mechanics in this game are deeper than what you think they are. It doesn’t actually protect you from everything. So barrels aren’t ACTUALLY an outlier. You keep acting like they’re the odd man out, they’re not. What all of these things have in common is that they’re obvious telegraphed things that you’re meant to avoid and are meant to be very punishing if you mess up and don’t. Barrels reasonably fall in the same category.
PS: I’d argue that them removing your toughness would make barrels far more dangerous, because now you’re open to poxwalkers shredding you through partial toughness while flying into a bad location and being unable to block/push. You lack the prequisite understanding of this games mechanics to understand this.
