There is a number of under-utilised psyker talents as they are objectively weaker choices when compared to their alternatives in the specific talent columns. @FatsharkCatfish
I tried some other options recently, and I think build variety could be far more interesting if some of these talents got altered slightly. Some ideas:
Warp Absorption - Replenish 10% Toughness when you kill an enemy with MELEE attack
Warp Unleashed - Gain between 10% and 30% damage with ANY weapon attacks, based on your current Peril
Wreck And Ruin - Killing an Elite or Specialist with Brain Burst applies 4 stacks of Soulblaze to all enemies within 3 meters of the target
Kinetic Shield - Take between 15% and 45% reduced damage from ANY type of attacks based on your current Peril
Kinetic Overload - While you have maximum Warp Charges, gaining a Warp Charge instead applies 6 stacks of Soulblaze to a nearby enemy, prioritizing Elite enemies
Kinetic Flayer - All attacks have 10% chance on hit to Brain Burst the target. No cooldown / 5 second cooldown max.
Tbh such suggestions wouldn´t bring more build-variety in general. You suggest just straight up buffs and reading through them sounds more broken than anything else.
10% toughness on ANY kill will become the metachoice.
More damage based on perial doesn´t suit non-force weapons. And 45% damage reduction on top. because you´re able to press LMB sometimes at 99% peril?!
6 stacks of soulblaze is too much, especially with your 10% BB chance without any cooldown. You´ll just slay easily through everything while even elites in closerange will melt down.
The only thing that actually sounds “ok” is the Wreck and Ruin buff since the circumstances are still highly limited. The rest are just flat numbers to me which lasts in a broken gameplay and obvious metachoices.
In comparison with Exhilaration takedown from VetSS [Replenish 15% Toughness on Ranged Weak Spot Kill] while VetSS own 200 toughness by default (against poor 100 pts for Psyker) it would be more fair to boost above 10%. And of course because you can’t enlarge Psykers default 100 pts with just one curio as much, as VetSS can, parametrs must go further. Maybe 20%? Single shotgun shell have enough potential to drop down full toughness, regeneration step by step, 10 kills in row (minus coherency bonus of course). Also tuning this one feat without tweaking 2 others in 1st row is just bad solution.
Still it’s called Warp Unleashed, not enrage =)
In case of supernatural and so on, i like concept of Zealots Retribution [+10% attack speed below 50% health. Bonus is doubled below 20% health]. Convert it to peril, pick different breakpoints, like 20%, 45% and 70%. Boost Warp weapons and all melee attack speed + BB spell cast. A bit more warp oriented.
Radius seems little short, no? also mentioning Soulblaze effects on enemies within damnation difficulty - it’s just a joke. No use. You need like 6-8 stacks to damage enemy and like 10 to kill elite human size.
If you wish to be useful and pickable perk - switch it to damaging to Elite, Specialist or Monstrosity with Brain Burst applies 4 stacks of Soulblaze to all enemies within 3 meters of the target. BTW it’s already bugged and 2 stacks of soulblaze apply on BB cast with 3 meters radius.
Probably overkill with active Psychic Communion for anything below heresy and non-essential for anything on Damnation. Maybe low-intensity reliable. Specially compare to your suggestion for Kinetic Flayer. Not sure, if AoE like effect from Wrack and Ruin?
Without cooldown it’s simply no penalty overkill, while with 5 secs cooldown it’s crazy warp charges generator. Can’t say i wouldn’t like to see it on live server.
It’s “hitting an elite/special with BB”, the “killing” is wrong since last patch. The feat is pretty nice as it is, especially on damnation. 4 stacks are enough to kill trashhorde, 6 stacks kills every shooter. You just pop 2 brainbursts in an elite in a mixed horde and clear lots of trash as a sideeffect.

Still, Inner tranquility seems more viable pick for spam-staff build, like purgatus or voidstrike. Going to try with surge CC preset.
Kinetic Flayer is a badly designed perk that needs to be entirely replaced
It’s impossible to balance right
At 15 seconds it’s mostly just good to get a free warp charge, and the seldom Elite easy kill
If you remove or drastically reduce the cooldown on the other hand, Autopistol says hello
I’m maining an Autopistol Psyker build and this thing is basically guaranteed proc off CD
It’s never going to be balanced right, so it’ll stay just barely average, i still pick it, and while i don’t hate it and it does get useful at times, it’s mostly because Warp Battery and Kinetic Overload are garbage feats
edit - Just to clarify because i know a lot of Psykers are in love with Warp Battery : this feat doesn’t help you cross any breakpoints, it’s pretty much pointless
My suggested changes are intended to be “cheap” in terms of time required to implement. Kinetic Flayer COULD be decent for a melee focused psyker if the proc wasn’t restricted by a cooldown.
I was thinking that Kinetic Flayer could be given a low proc chance that increases with each weakspot hit and resets whenever it procs. This would give it synergy with non-force weapons, as only the voidstrike staff will reliably be hitting headshots.
Pair this with a Wrack and Ruin buff which allows it to proc on any enemy type and apply more stacks of soulblaze, and you’d have a viable gunker build without creating any feats explicitly geared towards non-force weapons.
This would allow Psyker to still fill their crowd control niche while allowing them to use alternative builds that focus on melee or gun gameplay.
You could make it cooler like making it permanent and have it jump onto 2/x other targets when target inflicted with this burn dies so you potentially have some strong rolling dots going around instead of this random couple ticks of damage.
Or when gaining charge over maximun for x seconds your attacks apply 2/x stacks of soulblaze.
Personally cant just see increasing stack numbers alone fixing this talent. It needs some sort of gimmick.
I’m 99% sure it’s currently working with any type of attack due to not being a different melee/ranged damage reduction coded into the game. The same goes for other DR talents on other classes.
Otherwise, almost all sounds op as hell, I’m in.
Every suggestion is just a straight-up buff. I hope Fatshark does not see this topic, Psyker is fine as it is. I’m sure they will take a look again at the feats once they release the next class.
Also, out of the 6 talents you want overbuffed I already use 4 of them on my main build (I play damn +AnyMod).
This interaction does not exist. The two feats can not possibly be combined because they are both on lvl 25.
It does let you reach breakpoints with brainburst.
It also lets you reach breakpoints with Ascendant Blaze.
And it applies to „peril resistance based on warp charges“ (unless bugged).
It is absolutely not pointless. You are just uninformed.
To add to this it also adds damage to your melee and ranged weapons. I highly doubt they went through and tested every possible breakpoint on every possibly weapon before posting that.
Going one step further my understanding is that it is a damage bonus, which generally stack multiplicatively with power bonuses. Here’s an example I’ve been running recently. Autopistol with god blessings maxed gives +150% bonus power for 2.5X damage overall. Mix in 6 warp charges and now you’re at 3.1x damage. It has added the equivalent damage of having an extra +60% power in terms of damage output. This should work the same way with slaughterer force sword as well, which is a very common weapon choice for Psyker. When you combine that with the extra peril resist you can be getting too it can be a pretty big net benefit to run warp battery.
True, did not thought about the position. But i´ll stick to my point so. 6 stacks will melt everything and it´s pretty easy to gain warpcharges in combination with Wreck and Ruin + AB. It´ll be somewhat “automode” where soulblaze gets renewed by itself permanently.
And having no cd but a 10% to BB on hit, will make stuff like autoguns / pistol or purgatues broken af. Even 5s will be too strong at some point.
Right, as this is turning into the argument I should have expected…I’m NOT hanged up on specific numbers. I simply want under-utilised talents to be fleshed out / buffed so they are a serious competition to other talents in the same talent column. Atm many of these are objectively a worse choice or offer no real gameplay variety.
It´s not about the numbers at this one, it´s about the loop it causes. 6 stacks + 4 stacks from Wreck and Ruin. Just BB one elite and it´ll cause it in an area. Then you´ll get warpcharges through AB, which cause new soulblaze-proccs etc…
Yes sounds funny, but it´s too strong and you can pretty much “afk” it too some point.
