Blocking/Defending

Hey, I can’t find any specific information on how blocking works. How does stamina affect blocking? And how do I know if I’m going to take damage while blocking or not?

Also, I understand we can slide to get extra movement/distance, particularly after a dodge, but I can’t seem to recover from the slide fast enough to make it worth it. How do you dodge, slide, and continue moving fluidly without a long pause at the end of your slide?

Stamina is a flat value for blocking. You will take no damage while blocking as long as you have stamina. When you run out of stamina, you will block one attack and then become staggered.

Most attacks will not cause damage when blocking. The exceptions include the slow, overhead attacks of the big Ogryn Crusher and the Traitor Captain with Power Maul. This might also apply to the Mauler’s overhead attack but I’m not sure. If you have I shield I believe you can still block them but take massive stamina damage.

In short if you see an enemy with a big 2 handed weapon slowly preparing an overhead strike you should dodge instead of blocking.

I have never really used sliding aggressively in melee so I can’t comment on it. It is a risky move because it also consumes 2 dodge charges instead of 1.

i don’t have the numbers but block feels anemic unless you run 30% + block, 30+" stamina regen, and +6 stamina.

It feels like something you need to heavily commit to for it to be worth it.
