Nothing more to add, except than maybe, one day, FatShark goes ahead and makes mods like Solo Mode, Tertium 4 or 5 and Better Bots, vanilla so it gives you game progression…
I also suggest tracking this mod since it’s fresh and the creator is planning to make the bots be able to do more stuff in the future.
Actually pathetic it’s been this long and they haven’t addressed this. We live in a time where people who aren’t even paid to make content, make better content than the actual people paid to do it. Baffling.
The average employee will probably spend a massive chunk of time in meetings, getting permission to do things, trying to sort out someone else’s problems, or otherwise doing things that aren’t working on the game.
Compare this to the average modder who will, in their free time, be able to implement whatever the f*ck they want.
It’s always management and processes screwing things up. And Fatshark’s management is incompetent.
They are a huge improvement over vanilla bots, this should be the bare minimum in the base game.
However I have a few grievances/criticism:
They have Infinite ammo and a million wounds, which doesn’t compensate for basically a glorified Bosco from DRG, that you can’t even “tag” at enemies like an Arbites dog
They won’t shoot enough if you build them for ranged (desperado/exe stance), making all that infinite ammo worthless
they will play absolutely glued to you, so building them super melee aggressive doesn’t quite work as they will never frontline/make pushes properly
they prioritize chaff too much and don’t clear it fast enough, ignoring important enemies, (although they are better than vanilla bots and the average auric random, I will give them that) which leads into snowball downs and wipes.
they don’t take assisting seriously enough, feels worse than vanilla bots in a way.
Otherwise, very fun mod! Highly recommend it and hope the modders keep improving on it. I made it halfway trough a H24 with them, not even trying too hard, If min-maxing they would probably be carriable trough h30 on an easy map and easy modifiers.
I don’t know this for a fact and I’m not saying i agree, just offering a possible explanation.
The framework the modders are working is different to the devs. One can use a fudged semi offline mode using the intro scenario with swapped out maps and AI’s and do not have to worry about security or server impact. And the other is FS.
Also, FS are making a game that is “Best” experienced online and multiplayer they may not view a solo server intensive mode as being either warranted i.e. not enough people don’t play because of its absence. Or simply because it’s viewed as dead dev time taking the game in a way that the majority won’t use or get any benefit from and would actually harm the game as suddenly matchmaking and servers degrade due to people playing solo.
Or they may simply view the mod solution as perfectly fine this is a solved problem bringing it inside isn’t worth the time it would take.
Again to be clear not saying i agree or support any of these possibilities just playing devil’s advocate
That would be a monumentally stupid take on FS’s part given they’ve released the game on two consoles, consoles that don’t have access to mods.
The CM got the information from somewhere, and yes it should be continuously brought up because it is a promised feature that is a staple of the genre and Fatshark wants us to forget about it and move on so they don’t have to address how poorly they handled the situation. By keeping it in the limelight we can let them know “you’re not fooling us, we remember.” And maybe something will be done about it. Probably not, but that’s their loss when players recognize “oh, not only do they not meet their own set expectations, but they can’t even be open and honest about it.” I doubt anyone takes anything FS says “is coming” without a massive grsin of salt because of how they handled solo mode amongst other features they were promised and never mentioned again.
I feel like most of these complaints are actually good design. You don’t want the bots to be Godlike, ironically what you described fits VT2 Bots pretty well, which are then further improved with that game’s “Better Bots” mod.
Which is sad, that Darktide’s “Better Bots” are basically the baseline “good enough” bots from VT2.
I’d say small and spread out. Most of 200 FatShark devs from are probably focused on their untitled project. Darktide has only a fraction of the whole studio so they have to constantly monitor what they’re focusing on. first thing to focus on is what the stakeholders want. And they definitely want more DLC classes and new content. Anything which they think will bring them most profit.
QoL and bug fixes are second in priority. Updates like Bound by Duty are things that the Darektide dev team gets granted in a form of extra budget if the year is going well sales-wise.
This video explains it well (clickbait title, I know)
