Besides the Hive Scum class choice, the trailer is so off

It completely breaks the tone set by Darktide so far.

In every video so far enemies are displayed as a threatening presence. With the power creep, FS has embraced the power fantasy. We’re no longer fighting impossible odds, but decimating armies instead. Still, the enemy was depicted as a threat.

In the new trailer, the enemies are reduced to comedic cannon fodder in service of cartoon violence. And at the same time they’re supposed to have captured Ogryn and Veteran and are about to behead them or something. In comes generic dystopian street criminal with a crowbar of all things to save the day.

Besides the class choice, this seems completely off brand.

Is a girl with a crowbar and 2 Uzis… she just got lucky.

And I feel the trailer is too short.

Scab running animation is crazy bad in the trailer, why it’s so cartoonish. Like skibidi toilet meme level.

It looked incredibly stupid, seriously WTF?

Yeah… In Arbites, enemies were shown as a threat…

You can disxlike the class idea… but come on…

Well it’s just so weird. It’s fine they can’t have a cinematic for every class cause of budget. But like some trailer using their engine? Cause it’s not even close to this for example. Why there is always some sort of lazyness, nonchalance for DT.

No crazy action, just speech, but damn that’s EPIC.

They weren’t but I do think the arbites trailer was much better, hive scum trailer feels off to me but I don’t know why.

Because a bunch of the trailer was cut. At about 37s the ganger is suddenly wielding her guns when a second ago she was holding her crowbar. They tried to hide the lack of transition by using a still shot of her silhouette. In addition the remaining heretics have teleported from the hostages to halfway across the walkway and start in a mid-run animation. No other cinematic has these abrupt cuts.

I’m guessing the missing scenes was stimm injections and the one week delay was about getting it cut. The class gimmick is stimm but there’s no reference to it at all in trailer beside a well hidden stimm injection sound at 24s that you would never recongize if you’ve never played the game.

Plus FS released the class blog early this time instead of letting us stew and pick apart the trailer.

Gangers are very 80’s action flick coded.

I don’t really get 80’s vibe here. This is Fortnite/LoL/Borderlands vibe.

For me I didn’t really care about the power creep… it’s more… why would you surrender? Like, they were about to execute you, so why would you surrender?

It would have maybe had more technical problems but to me it would have made more sense if they were pinned, bleeding out, etc. and just barely able to hold them off with suppressive fire while on the ground or something, and then the hive scum comes in to flank the enemy and take them out.

I hated the 2nd crowbar swing looked very unnatural, 1st wasn’t so great either =/

Literally a mechanic of the game itself. These kinds of complaints don’t make any sense to me. You get captured all the time in this game.

I mean, even that diegetically doesn’t make sense. We DIE a lot (not captured) and when we’re “rescuing” new operatives the idea is those are “new” rejects… they just happen to be exactly like the person that died… unless they alt+F4’d.

But it still begs the question WHY would they capture us? And if enemies are coming, why do they just leave us alone with some handcuffs on with half our ammo and weapons on us?

I don’t think too hardly on it because I don’t know how else they would want it from a gameplay perspective, maybe it takes a really long time to turn captured people into pox walkers or something.

But if you are in an engagement with an enemy, it doesn’t make sense to surrender unless they would also show mercy… and being infected with a nurgle plague that makes you go insane where you ask people to kill you is probably a fate worse than death, which they should know at this point. So may as well fight to the death or blow your own brains out.

There is an enemy in this game whose sole purpose is to capture us with a net gun. Wolfer demands some be taken alive for questioning. Saying stuff like “Well I would fight to the death!” sounds good when you’re on your computer but plenty of prisoners of war just wanted to live and did all they could to that end. Moreover, the entire game starts with Wolfer in a prison ship, why did we take HIM alive?! Maybe because, like any real war, its not all “too the death” and there are reasons someone may be captured.

Even in a specific mission, it is NOT clear that the ones being rescued are “new rejects” (where did they come from, they didnt die?) its just that your “death” was not a death, you were just near dead and captured.

The trailer narrative is supported by just both IRL logic & game design.

Incorrect. The tutorial tells us that if our health reaches zero we will be captured. But also, the classes comment things like “Veteran’s dead” or “They killed my pal!”. So we have two of these options both confirmed in the game.

It’s best not to question it, easier on the head.

And when the Trapper catches a reject she often says a line like “They’re pinned down, FINISH THEM!” so it sounds more like she fills the role of making it easier to kill us, not just capturing us.

I feel like the tutorial is more explaining the gameplay mechanics while trying to avoid breaking immersion as much as possible. They go into things like toughness and coherency which… don’t thematically exist? They just exist mechanically.

I think the “death” lines and the fact we were eaten by a beast of nurgle or exploded over an edge, or whatever is us dying vs being captured thematically.

Even if they did seems like a silly mistake, as well as the logistics.

And what @Hammer_hold said. Seems they just use a net gun to pin us for the purpose of killing us easier.

The wolfer lines I can’t say don’t remember them and the context.

I think being captured by nurgle worshippers is probably worse than dying.

In reality, plenty of soldiers who reported keeping one in the chamber over being captured by ISIS.

“Capture Underway” is also one of the voice lines by the trapper. “Another prize for the 6th”, “Beginning capture”, “No escape for you”. There are plenty of lines that do not support a “this is only for killing”. Of course there are lines that say otherwise, we’re in a war game, but again the mechanics of the game and story elements support the idea of BEING CAPTURED.

To try and suggest otherwise is just blatantly false.

Sure!! But even IN LORE factions take prisoners and not everyone is killing themselves to get out of it.
