Been playing Helldivers 2 recently and

Speed up. As in - make something that otherwise takes a rather short amount of time considering Live Services, and make it even shorter.
The fact that there’s a cap and you can’t stack them reinforces the idea that nobody has any edge or advantage.

So, why play Dif9? Because you can. Because you squadded with your mates.
What’s the reward? Fun times and memories. And quicker medals, if you care.

If medals aren’t an issue, and SC isn’t hard to come by for literally anyone with a working periphery on their chosen platform, sounds to me like a rather accessible game with focus on being fun and engaging, rather than selling you things.

I dunno whats going on in this thread but i just came by to stir the pot.

DT gets new weapons and enemies once a year give or take.
HD2 gets new weapons and enemies like clockwork every month.

Thats all it takes.

Darktide’s updates are still mainly systems that should’ve been in the game the way they are on day 1. i’ll give some leniency to the class overhaul, but other than that and the twins everything should’ve been shipped with the game. we’re 2 years in still playing catch-up.

Nah, class systems were definitely something planned for/worked on before launch. That blog post that came out the day after the closed beta started trying to explain that the archetype/class system was different to VT2’s character/career system makes more sense in extreme hindsight.

The issue was that they were saying what came out was different not that what just came out was a placeholder until the actual system came out.

What did I tell you? WHAT DID I TELL YOU?!

Edit: SWEET LIBERTY, THEY’VE ALREADY TAKEN CYBERSTAN!

I assume Arrowhead is able to do that because they had a ton of stuff built up before release during the game’s 7 years of development.

That said, enemies aside, how hard is it really to make 12 weapons and release them once a month? Not that hard imo.

Not a lot of games do this kind of thing really, would be nice if Helldivers 2 sets a new trend for it, and even nicer if Fatshark immediately adopted it.

Depends on how you want it to work. If you want them to all be new things rather than variants of an existing concept, it can take a while. You’ve got to make animations, balance it against in-game enemies and difficulties, make sure it’s not intruding on anyone’s niche…

Unfortunately literally all Darktide seems able to offer is variants on existing weapons, and make weapons that are just better than their predecessors. The polish is not there.

For some reason I thought that’s it all the automations are gone then they’ll have to invent a new type of race invasion like Squid people or something

Just do easy weapons. How hard would it be to add a set of bolt action or semi-auto rifles? Can’t be that hard. Thats 3. Some short swords? Copy vermintide assets. How about a polearm? Copy vermintide again. Thats like 5+ easy to buy time to make more complex gear. Also we’ve seen the leaks. They have piles of unused models.

“But Reg, we already have the Headhunter autoguns! This would ruin their niche and disrupt the perfect balance FS has established!” -:nerd_face:

Counterpoint: that would require effort, and the devs clearly are too busy copying Cousin Okri’s achievement system from Vermintide to copy the weapons as well!

Yeah can’t upset all one of the “””survival shooter””” enthusiasts.

To be fair with the new blog post everyone is talking about Darktide on the other forums, but look at the name of this thread…

They are a very cool looking faction, and was fun to blow aliens up into goo chunks (sad that Automatons are no longer cyborgs so you can’t turn them to bloody chunks…) however they had a lot of mechanics that made them unfun to fight imo (locking off sections of the screen, reversing controls, weird patrol mechanics etc).

However a lot of those mechanics were tied to the game being top down, so I believe they will be a lot better to fight in a 3rd person shooter.

Cyborgs are about to come back anyway. They’ve been reclaimed by the bots and theyre in the leaks
