Imagine a new mission type, in which the 4 players have 4/8 allies (guardsmen BOT) and have to survive multiple waves of heretics in a small map. Each wave more challenging than before !
Heretics should spawn from only one direction. Players and guarsmen BOT could have some bunker, fences and crate to protect them and have to keep the position, whatever horrors are coming !
BOT could’nt be heal or revive and if they die, it’s really done for dem ! They are only helping players for the few first waves…
Each 3 waves, a Valkyrie land behind Imperium position to deliver some crate, medpack, ammo, materials…
Then player have a choice :
all the players come inside the Valkyrie and the mission is won ! => cinematic of the team leaving the position and more guardsmen arrive to take over…
or
players wants dont get in the Valkyrie and continu to defend the position ! At the risk of loosing everything…
The more waves they won, the more coins, ressources, XP they get ! It could be nice to have an extra bonus for each BOT guardsmen who survive with you !
This would be a fun one. New game modes and content are great and it’d be interesting turning the current ‘everyone is a strike team doing strike team things’ gameplay loop on its head. Give us escort and defense missions and you’ll add a lot more content.
I don’t play multiplayer games to play with bots man. Fighting alongside a bunch of braindead bots doesnt add any kind of strategy or interest other than babysitting the googoo gaagaa bots which isn’t fun or compelling.
You know what would be much better?
instead of just 4 player, have 8 player wave defense.
So you want 4 player wave mode where the bots do literally nothing, do zero damage, and are just set dressing?
Eh, I guess.
8 player would be way more effective for bigger feel imo, as your team mates would actually be alive. Although yeah, it would require special modifiers to balance it.
Imo instead of bots better just add some npc like techpriest who is praying for machine spirit to activate turrets and you need to defend him untill his work is done, when you win - you can see how turrets go brrrrr shredding hordes into pieces, gg mission ends.
This would mean a new mode, and in which case I think we should upgrade from the previous ones (Fortune of War), and make it a real horde mode:
Wall of Martyr
(name of GW’s terrain pieces)
Each time those would be set in modified missions locations (Like the last stand of Baros or the Metalfab one), each of those map would have a vendor from whom you can buy, upgrade and gain boon from (In mission currency)
Waves:
Set waves that are exponential and limitless (ergo at some point you’ll die), but following a set method of evolution.
Ranks:
This game mode would be able to be played in 2 modes, unranked, or in ranked mode.
In mission currency:
Working like the Chaos Waste Pilgrim’s coins, but awarded for killing enemies, surviving waves, maybe accomplishing secondary tasks…
Those coin would then be able to be spent for 5 different things:
Weapon shop: Let you buy a grey weapon, those grey’s quality/rating would be dependent on the waves levels ? Or set to a specific level but can be upgraded.
Hardon’s Servitor: Can let you upgrade a weapon in rarity, or change perk and blessings
Blessing/Boon Vendor: Work like the Blessing places in Chaos Waste
Replenishing Station: Give back ammo and health for a small fee
Buildable: Letting you set Mines, automatic turrets (Tarrantula), or call upon different bots
Yes! Making it like conquers bad fur day, does anybody remember this gem? [image] For those that dont, this was a multiplayer mode where teddy bears defended against squirrels trying to make it to the tower. The squirrels could not shoot, only run and jump. The teddies had snipers in towers and it was a wave defence, ahead of its time, if i do say so. I think Darktide could have an amazing spin on this concept, even if it is PvE. Give us a bunker, and throw hordes at us in the grim dark futur…
A tower defence style mission where we have to hold bunker and protect civilians (could be a refugies camp) untill transport arrive to extract everyone !
It could be awesome !
Each 3 waves, valkyri land, few civilian get in before the aircraft leave… Players should wait for the last civilian extraction !
Think MW3s npc fireteams in its survival mode. While they didnt do as much as the player, they were more durable and could take attention away from the player long enough for them to breathe. That’s the kind of AI. Durable, a little smart with taking cover, but not there to hold your hand. You still have to do the heavy lifting of actually surviving.
Edit: However instead of a more open multiplayer type map to just survive in. Think more trenches and walls to defend, hold, and fall back to while bracing against the horde of nurgle’s followers.
