Backend Error: Error Signing In 2026

Issue Type (Required):

Error - Backend Error

Issue Description (Required):

After the latest patch when I launch the game and press [SPACE] to log in, I get longer loading before it denies me entry and gives me a pop-up window “Backend Error: Error Signing In”

Steps to Reproduce:
Trying to log into the game does it for me.

Before this, the backend error was of no issue.

What has been tried:
Disabling Firewall
Flushing DNS
Selecting an “experimental” build of the game
Restarting router
Restarting PC
Coming back to the issue after a few hours (after which it still persisted)
Experimenting with VPN.
Setting preferred DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Disabling IPv-6 network entirely
Launching Steam with admin rights
Adding exceptions just for Darktide in the Firewall settings
Deleting the Darktide folder in appdata
Verifying integrity of game files
Updating GPU Drivers

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Sorry to hear this @Azazel_Angel

Are you able to try temporarily switching to a mobile data connection? This can help to determine if the issue is network/ISP-related.

Greetings.

I have already tried that and it didn’t work. I’d also tried launching Darktide and the launcher directly from the Steam folder with admin rights, but all it did was make it so the error pops up instantly as soon as I press [SPACE] to log in.

Hi @Azazel_Angel

One of our backend developers has implement a small fix, which we’re hoping may resolve the “Backend Error”. Please can you check again and let me know if it continues. Thanks!

Hello again.

The fix did work and I was able to play for some time, however only for a limited time, as with the release of the new patch (1.11.6) the issue has come back.

Hey Azazel, we’re looking in to this.

Edit: This should now be resolved, apologies for the inconvenience!

Has there been a fix for this yet?

Hello I am getting this exact issue also since the the “skulls” dropped

I have tried removing all Mods, signing in with the other Family Steam account (so it is not my account).

And I have tried complete uninstalling darktide from one hard drive to another.
No VPN or other things connected..

I HAVE tried connecting to the game with my underpowered HTPC in the living room.. and it does!! So it is JUST this PC that is causing the issue…

Accounts are fine, Networks are fine..

What could be causing this??

Sorry to hear this @jamalen

It’s a shot in the dark, but if you haven’t already done so, please try flushing your DNS:

  1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator
  2. Enter the command:
  3. ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Restart your PC

Otherwise our other connectivity solutions may be of help, here:

I am now getting the same issue.

I have tried everything in the thread, as well as the fixes from the support link.

Issue Type (Required):

Backend Error: Error Signing In

Issue Description (Required):

  • Last patch has been working fine until today.
  • The only updates have been shader pre-caching updates.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Launch the game.
  • On the title page, hit space to enter the character selection screen.
  • The error will appear after hitting space, before the character selection screen appears.

What has been tried:

  • GE-Proton 10-34, the latest version has been in use since the version and Darktide’s current patch release. However Proton and Proton Experimental were attempted without change in behavior.

  • Deleting the Darktide folder in appdata. No change in behavior.

  • Installed Mod versions were checked on git and nexus. No mods needed update.

    Screenshot_20260608_171712

  • Verifying integrity of game files showed one file needed replacing (darktideML-4linux / Darktide Mod Loader [DML] ). Returning the game to vanilla status and disabling all mods did not change the behavior.

  • Bazzite (Linux) was updated yesterday and the game worked this morning. AMD drivers if they were part of the update were included. An update attempt was performed on game failure. No updates were pending.

  • Last week the network router was replaced (Netgate SG-2200 to SG4200).

    • The new router has had its configuration systematically reduced including
      • Disabling IPv6 internally
      • Disabling PFblocker
      • Disabling filtered DNS (1.1.1.2, 1.0.0.2, 94.140.14.14, 94.140.15.15, 9.9.9.9, 149.112.112.112) and using non-filtered DNS (1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8)
        No change was observed.
    • Additionally a network reservation was created for the gaming PC and UPnP was enabled on the router for the gaming system. No change was observed.
  • The router and PC were restarted multiple times.

  • Friends online were able to login to darktide meaning login services were up and working. I didnt experiment with a VPN.

  • Other games were able to launch with steam therefore steam was not launched with admin/root rights.

  • Darktide is not blocked on Bazzite, all outbound traffic is allowed. This should allow login attempts from the gaming PC past both its firewall and the router.

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

Yes. But I have also attempted and reproduced the issue without mods. No change in behavior occurred.

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam - Fedora/Bazzite
