you’re forgetting that you have to invest into operative skills to reach multiple trees so
onslaught goes from 5 points to 1
exploit goes from 2 points to 1
rending strikes goes from an eye watering 8 to 1
since you mention kill confirmed i think I’ll grab that for a single auric point too so i save 6 points by not having to invest in that tree (you can argue that there are other skills i should want but i can still save 4 points by skipping the operative modifiers in between perks)
so assuming i only want these 4 skills from their relevant trees i go from spending 16 points to 4, i think having 12 extra points kicking around (8 if we are being really particular about that middle tree)
i uhh didn’t expect you to agree that it’s a time wasting grind and ruins the balance of the game but ok
especially when you later argue that you’re just playing for fun and don’t need a grind, why are you arguing in favour of this?
“I personally do not minmax, everyone who does is wrong”
if you use true level mod you can already see that there are people with enough ingame experience earned to have maxed out the auric levels, even if people don’t play for the grind anymore people will just keep hitting prestiges, especially since you backtracked on the prestige resetting your level
ok i ment the first part.
mostly anything we do in a game is wasting time, the catch is when its an enjoyable time waste.
i dont like games with heavy grind, but i also understand some grind has its place in games.
you dont want your players to get everything right away, and then have nothing to strive for.
you want them to take their time to play for a long time, but also feel their time isnt wasted.
i also dont think it will ruin balance, and im against changes that will cause power creep,
thats what i ment. sorry for the confusion,
i think min maxing has its place, but it shouldnt be everything,
i did backtrack on the reset to your class levels because it would make the grind harder.
and even with perhaps less fair to players time, but i do think their are merits in this idea.
Nah i think this would be stronger than just giving us slightly more skillpoints, i honestly think they should just give us no less than 3 no more than 4 more skill points, 1 more at level 1 so randos suck less, 1 more at 15 and, 1 more at 30. Or 1 at 1, 1 at 10, 1 at 20, 1 at 30, Im pretty sure most players dont want a longer grind for max gear lvl/sp. I think slightly more sp would be good for build variety so that people actually use different grenades/actives/auras than the most sp efficient for the buffs they want. For instance if you wanna use frag on veteran with infiltrate you lose at least 2 sp just for switching trees, and 3 if you wanna use for the emporer qnd 4 if you want to use marksman, instead of close quarters killzone, but if you give them too much itd just be blatant powercreep. And everyone turns into jack of all trades
i was thinking originally of making it add just 1 point every Prestige,
but i felt eventually that would lead to everyone having everything on the tree.
i guess it could be limited to only being able to Prestige once,
but then it becomes less like Prestige and more like newgame+.
which is why i went with the universal points as it could give the least amount of power creep.
with also the greatest amount of benefit to players at their first Prestige.
I think this would be great. My friend has a mod that lets him see “true level” and even with almost 300 hours in the game im only level 67. So id be Auric 2. So someone getting to auric 30 would be a huge achievement. And all it does is let you disperse points as you see fit removing the perk point tax of some skill tree routes. For being level 930 i think that would be well deserved.
thats true, but is that a bad thing, it offers just enough to keep people wanting to Prestige more, wail also not going so much in the way of bonuses that the game balance is changed too drastically.
This is not a change to be given through tedious grinding.
It’s either something anyone at level 30 can do or not, it’s the basic functionality of the skill tree.
I get it it would be great to have something to work towards to, and playing a psyker main I would love to be able to overcome those absurd tree limitations, but I don’t think that’s the part of the game to mess with.
The universal point(s) would be very powerful to grant to players in the game as it currently is. It would be pretty cool but if this were to be added they’d have to make big changes to the game’s balancing and/or the talent trees and I don’t believe it’ll be worth it. Not to mention that doing this would remove part of the decision-making process of making a build. Either way it’s definitely not a feature that should be locked behind a long grind.
Genuinely one of the worst ideas I’ve seen floated on these forums and probably the most out of touch with Tide game priorities. The universal talent point idea especially makes me throw up in my mouth a little.
Auric is there for you to get your teeth kicked in and if that isn’t enough incentive for you it’s not for you. VT2’s most long lasting community existed primarily on modded where rewards literally don’t exist.
Just reinstate general overlevelling and let those over levels go into material rewards or something like that to ease the gross crafting grind.
This is a pretty good take. Wanna throw some fancy cosmetics at long time players to make them feel cool sure why not. Any kind of overlevelling that actually increases your power beyond level 30 state is pure ebola (real).
I’m dead against any kind of character boosting, alteration or branch dependency changes from hitting lvl 30.
Why?
Because in my time here (since beta) what I’ve typically seen is:
“The game is too hard”. Followed by
“X weapons are so op/rubbish”.
Enemy Y is too hard". Followed by
“After change Z, the game is too easy. Make it harder!”.
I can’t think of a time when player power was consistently as strong as it is now. Any changes in that direction are self defeating for experienced players.
Sure. Give us a 10% melk/Brunt discount at level ‘50’. Or 100 Melk coins every extra 5 levels and some Brunt coins. Whatever. But let’s not make things easier please as then the game has to be retuned yet again.
i mean they could have other boons instead of Universal Skill points.
the idea is just a progression system, as @brosgw said it could be used as a way to unlock cosmetics.
I think this would make the most sense, kinda like implementing true level into the game. And a universal player rank instead of just level per character. Or unlocking something to break locks or gain a perfect weapon or something.
I have to agree that I’m not interested in relevelling my character, but I would be very much in favor of Fatshark officially implementing the True Level mod.
Not for clout, but I personally think it’s cool to see how many levels (playtime) others have accumulated. Especially the level 30 (+1500) gigachads. I’m working on getting that far myself!
Fatshark could also link frames and insignias to level brackets.
