yea that was a very big funny and at the same time weird meme when they said that, it’s like they tried to say that to see if people could change their mind just because of a pve game, they tried to say “it’s a pve game so solo play mode is not really important”
and yes that actually the last thing we heard
i also agree it is not a very meaningful statement, and just corpospeak
because it is just taking years that at this point it’s just a lie
That is pretty interesting to think about actually. If you assume they’re not just lying about it being close to being finished, you can assume they probably did finish it but decided not to release it because they think it’d be bad for the game.
I think this may be one of those typical “someone at Fatshark is dead set on a really stupid design thing and will never change his mind” moments, just like rng weapon stats.
maybe their ace card when player count goes below 1k players
they are doing it on purpose for sure imo, which is just meh
considering it wouldn’t take that much, to let us start private lobbies without the need of a 2nd player
Well they’ll be infront of a crossroads with this game one day. I’m not sure how long it will take, but there will come a time where the game is no longer profitable to justify the server costs. Their options at that point will be just taking the servers down and nobody can ever play it again, or adding soloplay (or server tools) of sorts.
They have previously ended service on games without releasing any sort of offline or selfhosting capability, effectively killing the games. So that’s the precedent we have
yes true, i remember war of the roses and many others
i’m in fact i’m more for a modded realm rather than starting a lobby private in a server
which would require p2p networking, and not necessarily taking away dedicated servers
cause l4d2 can do both, playing on valve dedicated servers or hosting game locally in p2p, or even actually in offline (so 3 modes)
hope they will do that, because darktide huge downgrade was the absence of modded realm, we would have many things we can’t have, and balancing mods or even creating new talents just for fun or challenge
yes and i wanna open a discussion about this
i’m not interested about solo play, if it will mean playing with bots on dedicated servers
but i actually care about preservation, so i’m interested still in “solo play” if that means darktide p2p, if they care to do that at its end cycle hopefully, otherwise rip.
they could done both systems just like they are doing in vt2, on versus where quickplay it uses dedicated servers but can also play local versus with p2p system in vt2. they did before so they should do in dt in some ways later on i hope
it’s bad when they shut down without giving possibilities to play the game back, hopefully that thing about #stopkillinggames will do something about it this and in general within some decades
I doubt it’ll have much of an effect, people are too shortsighted to really understand the issue. I’m not even an old man but there’s already games that I wish I could go back to, but they’re just gone forever. Bit of a shame
It is my understanding that you can’t play VT2, not even modded, without FS servers involved in authentication at some point. Thus, once they shut down the game it’s gone. Is this not the case?
Edit: just booted up Modded Realm for the first time in years and yea, it signs into FS servers. Once they pull the plug, unless they release some patch before they do or a 3rd party finds a way to spoof the authentication (prolly not too hard but there may be layers behind that, like Steam works or something?), it’ll be gone.
Think realistically wether or not they’ll bother with that is a matter of effort. For VT2 it’s probably quite easy, just remove the auth stuff. For Darktide I’m seeing far less likelihood of it happening unless we get an official implementation of selfhosted games which at that point (in this hypothetical, the game no longer being profitable enough to upkeep) is a big ask.
So unless they at some point during the games life cycle change their minds and allow selfhosted play officially, they will probably just kill the service when it’s no longer worth the upkeep.
@Badwin I see, i think it does that still because it fetches your inventory from the stuff you earnt from official realm, but then you can legit spawn and save weapons you want etc.
CEOs of Fatshark @martin@david.wahlund
you guys need us to give answers about the important issues with the game, since there is too way radio silence and things are not clear.
we need some answers about the promised solo play and the ability to play locally because there are also people that actually have issues in playing darktide with dedicated servers because too laggy for them, where a p2p instance would be actually better.
If anything, this would be a philosophical/business question, not a technical one. They could just release the server program for DT (which I don’t think is very much different than a normal game, but I’m not sure) and we could do it old school.
I heard AWS games are a bit of a special structure but that kinda stuff is above me. Fundamentally true tho, just again, matter of effort to money considerations and maybe honor. Why even host that download if the game’s already a financial drain at that point? I’m thinking Fatshark is the kind of company that won’t bother to be honest.
