Partially probably the cost, partially probably for the same reason they didn’t “just break the locks.” Instead we got a hella-long wait and then a fully-baked solution.
The difference of course is that FS continuously said they were improving crafting and we haven’t heard a peep about solo mode for a long while.
Some people like the additional challenge.
Some people like only playing with close friends, not randos, and if friends aren’t on, then no Solo mode means no play.
Some people just don’t like real people at all, but may like the escapism the game otherwise offers.
Some people want an avenue to work on achievements that doesn’t rely on having to potentially inconvenience or cajole other players.
Some people want it because Fatshark promised it before launch and think the product should be feature-complete as promised when they purchased it.
These are all valid reasons.
Literally every competitor 4 player coop PvE action game I can recall has the option (HD2, Deeprock Galactic, L4D, PayDay), including the other 'Tide titles. Huge numbers of people play these games solo, that’s not a rarity, Deeprock Galactic even has an achievement for doing 100 solo missions. For Darktide, that’s a missing market space.
FS lowering the private game qualification to 1 would mean an increased load on servers. Meaning FS has to spend more money on them (this stuff isn’t free)
People who want solomode are a minority of the playerbase. (You go ahead and try convincing the FS management to spend more money to appease a miniscule % of the playerbase)
Darktide is a coop multiplayer game first and foremost and everything in it is designed around that even missions, solo play is not intended at all (you have to use mods to even get true solo) so devs just shrug shoulders and why get “it is not a priority”. Because it just isn’t
You might then ask if servers are the issue, why can’t FS just let us host the game fully on our machines?
Which what then leads to the final point:
4. If FS did let players host the game natively on their machine, then there’s no guarantee that all players can even run DT on their PCs, let alone consoles which are objectively weaker on average when compared to a PC.
Like imagine that FS did make sn update and changed it so that we can start private games by our lonesome. Which, most likely would be hosted on your machine, since servers are an issue. Only for you to find out that your PC/console is too weak and you can’t play Darktide solo with it.
That event would be a genuine sh*t show for everyone involved and nobody would be happy then.
True… having more player in game can increase the cost relevant to servers.
They should immediately turn off servers to cut the costs.
Sure… as it includes also people that did not buy the game because there is no solo…
Coop? problem is that most of the time the coop part is very frustrating with players that rush. I personally want just to progress on my own pace.
Obviously why a full support is asked.
You might ask yourself why they have not closed the door to many more try? maybe because this has no impact on servers?
If you don’t know, it is a way you can use to play online with bots and no human. You choose a mission that was created (max is 24 hours ago). Game populates the latest missions created. So if you pick a mission created 5 hours ago, and that no player join it (cause it can happen, seen that by the past), you will play it solo.
If it was a problem, they would have closed the door.
Sure… you decided it is an issue…
How “more players” is an issue for a company that want you to play their game to sell cosmetics overpriced?
Tell me…
I don’t think… it could, after all Psykhanium is instanced in local. But I doubt of that.
I doubt that servers are a problem, cause I tested a lot the solo mod. Solo mod is local, so no server. The game is VERY low on CPU resources, incredibly low. I expected not that as it was close to no impact on CPU (sure it may have, but I could not really notice it – see, I think in this thread, someone that was not believing and tried and had to admit it is very low on cpu). So I doubt that servers are the problem. And I would like to point that, again, here this is festival. Who said that? an user on this forum… and now the legend spreads…
Like the legends that Game workshop forbids Fatshark to permit us to paint our clothes… Sm2 have it, DoW 1, 2 and 3 have it… and I am pretty sure there are other Warhammer game that have it… but every thread opened on this topic you see someone coming to “explain” that Fatshark “cannot let us choose freely the colors we want” cause of the evil Game Workshop… facts have proven that it is totally wrong.
And I guess here this is the same. You don’t know how it impacts the servers, you don’t know their contract with their provider, you don’t know the income return of introducing a game mode that could attract NEW players and you don’t even know the cost of a solo game mode for Fatshark…
This has been brought up many times, and til now I’ve always pointed to the Solo mod that proves the game can run solo (even on the Steam Deck).
But you do bring up a point about consoles that we of course can’t answer. I’d imagine that they are also capable of running solo games just fine, but who knows.
Does using the true solo mod cause the game to run natively, fully on your PC/steam deck? Or are you just “leeching” off of Fatshark’s servers to make the game function?
Because that is a very important distinction to make.
natively on your pc
but because of how hitboxes work and certain enemies it makes the game almost unplayable so you need to use another mod to give you artificial ping
so is space marine 2 and i take great pleasure in it that i never have to deal with people when clearing the highest difficulties on my own.
even the bots do a better job, you cant compare the gameplay though darktide still rules supreme in that regard.
still being able to play the game the way i want it, without mon-kee-sabotage is refreshing and rewarding at the same time, having done something purely on my own where 3 man teams fail.
coop is a “can” option for my closest friends, where we are all on the same page and not forced upon to carry along people of questionable worth… should be this way in any coop game, not just darktide.
sure i play it with randoms, isnt really another option lacking a premade(by choice) but the simple option to just (with progress! i want my true level numbaaaaas ) solo HISTG or auric maelstrom when the mood strikes me would net me a lot more ingame hours.
plus sometimes map rotation is arse so making my own by that means is another priceless option
Ultimately, all of Darktide’s current market competitors in the 4 person coop action game space (Helldivers 2, Deeprock Galactic, Left 4 Dead, PayDay, etc), in addition to previously existing 'Tide titles, offer true solo functionality.
The largest dev effort of the last 6 months worth of releases, by far, has been Havoc, a gigasweat game mode built for the tiniest percentage of the top players. I don’t feel too terribly strong in suggesting that a Solo mode would have appealed to a much larger chunk of the playerbase than Havoc ever will.
Do you even have an idea in term of resources? close to none. Try solo game mod and see. There is close to no impact at all at running the game instanced in local.
It may be better, but I have never used that. And that’s perfectly playable.
I even think it is better, at least for me. No more trapper that net me and that I have dodged… no more dog that bit me even if I had pushed them…
Here, if you get caught, that’s clearly your error and not lag related.
Hosts it yourself. The reason that servers dont save clients much performance if any is that the clients calculate all their own enemy positions and animations etc anyway, they just check in with the server that does it too and is authorative
agreed the radio silence is BEYONG RUDE and flat out shines of developer incompetence. they trying to not say they lied/dropped it for fear of harming shareholders earnings with fans ranting they gave up but simple fact is 90% of would be gamers have written game off as not viable and lack of support/comment from devs. its hurting more by not addressing fan concerns.
Please try to understand they either have a massive issue with resources or they stopped caring and they consider their product must be milked for another year or two in a very rigid way, until they release the new IP.
There can’t really be an absolute answer. They probably don’t want to exclude the possibility that they COULD start work on it at some point. But they did as unambiguously as we’re gonna get say that it’s not being worked on.
Are they liars, or will they fulfill their promise, which was a firm promise?
They said, ‘In December 2022, you’ll get a solo game mode.’
I consider that we were very kind on this topic.
and if they liars we want to see WHAT they will do to recompense the players they SCAMED out of money saying it was coming. we can not return game now. so give us something worthwhile to make up for it.
