Yep! I haven’t yet, but will eventually.
I have no idea what’s going on in HD2 nor do I get the point of complaining about its balance issues in a DT forum, by a different dev no less… but I will say that becoming active for the first time both here and over at steam since DT released has been a very eye-opening experience precisely for what you just said.
The original Power Sword (with Cycler 4) was so ridiculously, completely, unfathomably broken OP it beggars belief. It had way more dmg & cleave than now, could do 10+ powered swings with a single charge. And yet every time it was nerfed incrementally the forums were filled with protests. This is despite the fact that even its most nerfed version ever back in 2023 summer was still strong enough to be the obvious best melee on vets with no contenders. It only changed after Oct 3:rd’s overhaul and related balance fixes, mostly because back then they buffed a ton of all the other melee plus the meta changed due to far more aggressive spawns on Damnation.
Speaking of those Oct 3:rd’s changes, I also remember the completely broken OP Void, the infinite Smite bug, the EP Smite/Surge bug exploit etc. too. Every single one of those nerfs & fixes had tons of people ranting from here to Steam & Reddit about how Fatshark was wrong to fix them. I’ve long since lost count of how many threads & comments I’ve seen claiming nerfing is always bad and you should only buff everything else instead… displaying a truly worrying lack of understanding about how balancing even works and why (I really shouldn’t even have to explain why this is the case).
I’m embarrassed to say this, but this last year of gaming of all things has given me more insight than anything before about the people outside my own social bubble. Rl politics and all is polarized for a reason, so I always kinda viewed that as a separate issue. But lately I’ve truly come to realize - and I’m sorry but there’s no nice way to say this - just how incredibly dense and unbelievably selfish so many people are.
I’m neurodivergent so I know I can be dense myself about some things too, but they tend to be social things, soft values & issues. Even then, I do follow the news, discuss things with friends & colleagues and tend to have a decent idea of what’s going on in the world. So to have gaming of all things be that final nail in the coffin, finally disillusioning me about the sorry state of humanity, is just sad.
Well, pretending like “taking away what people enjoy is a good thing” is a crap model for the entertainment industry.
While the majority are not unemployed neckbeards who enjoy sweating in games.
And we definitely saw based on Darktide how good buff (patch#13) can boost the game multiple times better than any amount of lame nerfs.
No it’s not, if people can’t see when things are broken and trivial that partialy their fault (devs still response for thing being broken).
First, there is a design and devs explain it.
Second, it’s faster and make sense to fix one thing that is broken, than break 9 others and than also change enemies’ stats so balance will make any sense again. (they buffed a lot of things in this patch also), with such approach it means you need to recreate game balance from the start cause there is one thing that works in the way it wasn’t designed to.
Third - there is a difference between nerfing to make sense and nerfing to the ground
Fourth - those who don’t want to git gut can stick to easer difficulteis.
That’s the best thing about games - you can be nolifer and still suck, you can be a normie joe with 6 kids and kick ass. Pretending like gaming skills is the thing only nolifers have is dumb and not true
Lol what, it’s not cause of buffs overall (there were things needed buff), but cause of the whole new system that changed the way game plays. DT balance is a joke now, players are crazy overpowerd, 25 minutes to faceroll a Maelstrom with noone probably even will be knocked or out of ammo, cool story.
Cause nothing to discuss about DT, and HD2 is a competitor kinda - 4 pve coop GaaS built on the same engine. It’s just simple - you probably will not see on DRG or HD2 subforum threads like “Look at Fatshark, why can’t you be like them” or “DT is so good, why can’t you copypaste its mechanics”.
exactly this. I never was much of a forum person. I played games, and if I liked them, that was good enough for me. WIth DT it was a bit different for me, I really wanted the game to thrive, and was already looking forward to the future content! I’m still holding on to the dream to be able to curb stomp a deamonette with my hammer zealot in some brothel area with pink mist, but allas. But I became invested, and started lurking the forums.
But the amount of people that go “NeRfed GuN, GamE DeAd!! Fire developer!!” is always surprising. I never believed that people could be so entitled, and the sad part is, that they always manage to surprise me on that.
The discord in HD2 is going absolute ballistic since the patch, especially with that less tactical moderator and his comment.
But just buffing everything will never work? Because then the enemies are too weak, and they’ll buff those and we’re back at the start of the circle.
Same with here in DT, nerfs and buffs never bothered me that much, adapt and overcome right? even if my hammer was less viable, it still whacked.
Nope
Ok don’t. But the fact games work cause of rules, design and philosophy behind, that devs from different stuidos saying “only buffs don’t work”, and they are relying on metrics, not only opinios, all that will not change, cause it’s how things are.
What kind of metrics you can get from 2 weeks of release and start making decisions based on them?
Have you seen the ammount of players? Your ammount of data comes not just from time, but time x players. If there are 2 players played for 1 hour - you can’t make any deccision probably. When it’s 2 weeks with 300k-400k online, then probably devs saying “listen, it’s not working how it was intended” are not lying.
I guess I had enough of game industry insights for today
watch for shaking water classes and dont move rashuns
Fun fact: in the “Jurassic Park” novel, Ian Malcolm actually runs away from the jeeps simply because he’s scared and not because he’s trying to distract the T-Rex.
There’s also two T-Rexes (an adult and a juvenile) and the whole novel is a lot more… horrific than the film. Truly a masterpiece, and I recommend it to anyone who has seen the film.
Incredibly based tbh. But not very business smart. One should probably not insult your customers even if they are being super cringe over a nerf to a super dull 1 trick pony weapon.
It’s the core of the issue, if you don’t consider survival co-op to be a good time, you’re going to nitpick every detail of the game until it fits a game you DO like.
People cry about locks and progression because they see it as in the way of how they want to play- which is a more causal run’n’gun killchaser game over survival teamwork focus. people cry about cosmetics only because they want to dress as [popular warhammer trope] and feel like a main character.
Every single salty crypost on the forum (which is the vast majority of the posts on this forum, it’s disgusting) boils down to “this isn’t how I wanted the game to be, you need to fix it!” and then trying to either gaslight or get a compromise from the devs. and they won’t back down because then they’d have to admit they were the ones acting badly.
Spear. It was stealth buffed to get ammo off pickups. Also Recoiless. You just need a friend who is running the same with that number. Or EATs work too.
Unfortunately the autocannon has no value for bile titans but one guy with an AC and a workint dodge key can shred charger butts all day.
I am aware that the AV problems are pretty rough in HD2 and i would have, were i in charge, nerfed the rail gun while dropping mechs. But i digress.
It’s not quite as simple as just Spear.
Been playing diff 7 and 8 and what usually happens is that we all get bogged down and engagement line break causing everyone to split and run into spawning patrols causing more bug holes.
I wish I only had just 5 bile titans like that picture, at least I know how to kite and run away and time my dive against their spits.
Combined with stratagem scrambling, complex stratagems, and orbital fluc. on higher difficulty leading to extra CD, deployment time and random results for strat inputs; it becomes just an absolute slog and it’s not fun, doable? sure.
I read a good point from HD subreddit, that maybe the shield + rail isn’t the cause but a symptom of the main issue: an assload of armored terminids that spawns and this is the most effective and efficient way of dealing with it.
And I agree with that thought line personally, because now the new “meta” is just to use flamethrower; because it’s more effective than unsafe mode railgun according to players. just my 2 cents.
Only Spear is +/- efficient vs Titans, still, it takes 2 shots more often than 1, but if it’s following you (including other enemies) there’s no chance to make a reload for that second shot.
Recoiless or EAT never makes it even in 2 shots.
Having someone to carry your stuff is a luxury not many can afford.
