An issue I have with the Arbitrator Penance "Justice Dispensed" + possible ideas on fixes

Hiya.

I, like many other Darktide players, were enamored with our brand-spanking new class, the Arbitrators with a belief in justice that puts Judge Dredd to shame with their glorious upholding of the Lex Atoma. Now, I have spent a lot of time playing as an Arbitrator, enjoying it all, getting some of the more tedious penances done through some fixed and some fluid gameplay, when I came across the ridiculousness that is…

Now, the issue with this is the simple fact that, well… Execution Order only focuses on Elites and Specialists. On Heresy threat or higher, you have to wait a couple thousand of times for your Execution Order to mark an Elite or Specialist, hope that your teammates aren’t even half alright at the game, and get the kill. And do that 3499 more times. Or alternatively, you ask your teammates to gimp themselves to you and to not engage any Elites or Specialists – good luck with that.

A bit of a first hand experience: In one game of a Hi-Int Shock Troop Gauntlet on Heresy, I got somewhere around the 50-60 range, and that was being a kill hog and staying in the back, not being all too useful and focusing on longer ranged kills. Less than 2% through a penance in one game.

3500 is an absurd number of Elites and Specialists you have to kill. As someone who knows next to nothing regarding game balance, I have thrown together a few ideas that might help fix this injustice dispensation. Here are my proposed ideas on how to adjust this penance:

(a) NO OFFENSE TOO GREAT.
An additional node to the Execution Order Keystone that allows for non-Elite or Specialist enemies to be marked by Execution Order, with these lesser marked enemies counting towards the Justice Dispensed but not towards Keeping Protocol (the 1% Monstrosity Damage resistance for each Elite/Specialist killed in Execution Order)

(b) Decrease the criteria required to complete the penance Justice Dispensed.
Rather than 3500, decrease the quantity to 1000, 750, or even 500. 3500 is a huge number that the average player, if they’re grinding at it daily, will be able to complete in weeks.

(c) Player kills of enemies marked by Execution Order give 5x more value, teammate kills of enemies marked by Execution Order give 1x value.
Rather than Execution Order’s purple outline of an Elite or Specialist be visible just to the player who has it, it becomes visible for all other players in the team to see.

  1. If the Arbitrator with the Execution Order active kills that enemy, they receive a +5 for their penance efforts.
  2. If a teammate kills an Elite or Specialist marked with the Execution Order, the holder of the Execution Order receives a +1 for their penance efforts.
  3. This shared information regarding Execution Order will apply only to teammates who are within coherency. If a teammate is outside of coherency with the Arbitrator who has the Execution Order, they do not receive the information regarding enemies marked by Execution Order, nor does the Arbitrator receive the +1.

For example: Drudge has Execution Order active and it tags a Scab Shotgunner. Drudge, in coherency with at least 1 (one) of their teammates, kills the Scab Shotgunner and receives +5 penance points. The Execution Order tags a Dreg Gunner and Drudge’s teammate, still in coherency with Drudge, sees this enemy (who appears tagged with the purple outline) and kills them. Drudge receives +1 penance point.

But yeah, this is an idea or three that I had to “fix” this penance, since 3500 Elites and Specialists is a nigh Sisyphean task. Thank you for your time.

Yeah this is Munitorum’s Favour or Killshot Ready all over again…

And the worst part is it needs to be done in Heresy+, so you can’t just cheese it in lower dif like you could for those.

The dlc has been out for a few games. How about you just play the game and get it passively?

Just play the game?
I know it can take a while but it’s not poxbreaker

nah OP is right, 3500 marked elite and specialist take something like 50 games if you are not playing auric malestorm or havoc

‘‘just play the game’’ is a poor excuse for a slop in the reward system

its just too different from the other class penances that takes less than 5 games to complete

what if i don’t like the keystone

I don’t wish to get involved with this penance actually, mainly because I don’t like the arbites keystones. One looks like psyker one (Execution order) and one other like specialist keystone. Two keystones I always avoid.

But I will give the point to the players that pointed “do it passively”. This is not really hard to kill a specialist or elite. Even 3500 times.

50 games is not… really hard.

a task doesn’t have to be hard to be unneccessary tedious

this one is the psyker keystone to relate with your wordings

and its a big waste of time if like me i’m more of an enjoyer of the other two

Then don’t do it… there is not even a reward for it…

I mean yeah, you just have to play the game
Some penance are very annoying and require you to almost ruin games, this one is just long but very straightforward
I still can’t do the “cliff 7 enemies as psyker” and idc anymore
I’d take even 35.000 enemies over some of the convoluted garbage they could come up with

what i’m sure is that the devs didn’t mean for the class penances to be that tedious to complete, all the others would confirm that trend

Justice Dispensed is the only exception

Ogryn penances are exactly like this. Very easy stuff that you have to do a million times.

Veteran penances were the worst I have seen in this game.

the Lucky Bullet one had the same problem, and i’ve reported that aswell

you’d think this is the only time they had a oversight??

i think they just made an error, the one before had 3500 as a number, and they wrote the same for the next line

this one, they made confusion

I think it should change it a little. With something: For every marked kill YOU kill, you 2 point. When a teammate kills a marked you get 1 point. By doing that you still get your points but do not have use all your time focus on every single marked. I think doing this way it let you still have fun with the game and still being able to complete it.

FYI: Mortis Trail on Auric is a good way to level it.

or simply when the marked target dies, considering your job to be done

Or maybe don’t force yourself to go for that Penance with one Build playing it over and over again on repeat until you get the Penance.

They aren’t made so you grind them out all in one-go; of course it then becomes annoying and tideous if you do so.

Just do it casually along the way while playing the Game and you have it in no time.

And the DLC-Class is out for like what…three Days…why do you want to have it immediately and force yourself to mindlessly grind it out in one-go?
You don’t even need that Penance for the Cosmetics

Reminds me of some others who complained about Ogryns Heavy Hitter Penance with 3.500 Kills per Heavy Attack saying they are now ‘forced’ to spam Heavy Attacks every Match all the time…but Heavy Hitter is the go-to Keystone anyway for Ogryn and when just play Ogryn normally and occassionally throw in a Heavy Attack you just get it over time with no problems, no forced fixation or frustration…else you just ruin your own fun with the Game…

Also this. Mortis Trials on Damnation before already was the best way, with Auric its even easier. I got the 50x Stagger Monstrosities with the Remote Detonation in one single Match for example…and i joined in at end of Wave 9…
