it’s something that everybody in the community has wanted for awhile, not to mention vermintide 2 actually has the dailies AND they’re rewarded to you for doing challenges, both daily and achievement type.
the darktide player base just wants event rewards and daily play rewards. as a matter of fact? i know a good way to implement both.
event rewards.
you have them at the very end of an event, 500 -1000 aquillas for finishing an event.
daily play rewards.
you have to play every day for a week, each day, getting 20 aquillas. every time you reach day 7, you get 100. to actually get the aquillas, you have to play 3 damnation or higher missions and WIN. then, after you’ve finished your week, you start it over again, getting another 220.
simple, easy, rewarding, and it gives the players what is actually wanted. go ahead and add it, you won’t regret it.
Really, they can do that because they produce the only FPS game with large part of melee in a cooperation environment.
If one company create a similar game… they are dead. Considering the way they communicate and also their reputation, if this company is somewhat acceptable (and give a decent combat system), they would syphon the large part of the player base I guess.
Sure, warhammer fans would stay…
Almost every cosmetic released during Darktide’s lifespan has been disappointing, not true to the source material (Tallarn & Krieg), not working properly/glitches/clipping, or simply ugly/unfitting for the world of Darktide (coats are way too big/pimp outfits).
My free Aquilas would just pile because there is nothing to spend them on in Darktide’s empty store full of recolors, and it only rotates every two weeks.
I’m not even exaggerating when I say that Darktide is the worst handled MTX store I’ve ever seen, because even in scummy gachas, you can at least get pricey drip that looks good.
not “maybe” but definately "i’m too old for that ",
but holy hell do i hate a pinata hamster wheel with bling bling rewards.
i mean sure, log in for a trinket, why not.
if i wasnt down right now i’d have played anyways.
other than that, i’m here for the gameplay.
same reason i’m still playing OG doom (voxel mod’s pretty cool) every now and then i play… well for playing.
as for darktide, my “reward” was finishing havoc 40 2.0 on my own terms and i came out the better player for it
whats skins, trinkets, portraits if your finger hovers over the darktide shortcut thinking “nah, not in the mood for that right now” instead of thinking hours prior to getting home “man, if i tweak my loadout and build i’ll finally get that fkkin “40” today” ?
darktide’s passion i havent had since the days of quake, no matter the cosmetics is gonna change that due to the core gameplay being what gives me dopamine.
plus i NEVER sacrifice an effective loadout for a “penance” and risk a loss for all. after hitting ready its 100% or nothing.
so, weekly “challenges”? yeah ok, why not for those that want em.
i’d do my auric maelstrom or havoc regardless as long as i feel i’m improving.
this,
gold, melks krüger rands, plasteel or whatever.
for about a year now i got my char kitted out and as for cosmetics my ogryn looks like the mcfarlane figure.
since they wont bring any new additions to that line, i hardly ever change my look, despite having some what now? 8-10 maybe premiums in my inventory.
at the time they provided a certain flavor, after looking at my mascot near my mousepad i’m back to “the look” anyways.
so, whats the point in “moah numbas” when they dont buy me anything that increases my overall experience?
gimme a full fledged 50€ tyranid or ork addon and my wallet jumps into your face…
cosmetics surely are a matter of taste, what looks goofy to one can be the other’s dream outfit.
on one hand there are plenty of buggy cosmetics with clipping armors, floating candles etc, or just uninspired recolors (because that’s the reason we can’t paint our characters ourselves)
on the other there’s a reflex of bashing cosmetics every 2 weeks, no matter what comes out, especially on reddit, who i mocked when one release was delayed with “but i’m entitled to bash it today”.
i think many people are just annoyed and tired by having to wait for 2 weeks and then get nothing they like.
which would not happen without the rotating shop model, by far my biggest bone to pick with cosmetics. i can’t buy what is not offered in the shop, even if it has been published at some point, and i find such treatment of the customer disrespectful. generally, limiting player agency seems to be something acceptable. well, i would have quit darktide like 20 times if i didn’t like the game itself so much, exactly because of “player retention” tactics.
I still think it’s possible that we’ll get earnable Aquilas at some point. No way it’s going to come from just playing normal matches or be doled out every week though. But small amounts from events is something I see potential for.
I dunno, they might! There are currently, as far as we know, no revenue streams planned other than cosmetics and game sales. Uncorking this genie isn’t something they’d ever be able to undo I think, and if doing so would meaningfully cut into revenue then I hope they do this in as measured a way as possible. Maybe do it for major events like Skulls or the anniversary or something.
They’ll never give aquillas for daily play but I don’t see why they can’t give some for finishing a special event. It would actually be a “special” event that way and would encourage people to play.
The special events usually take quite a few games to complete so it would be rewarding to earn some aquillas.
The in game currency and materials are near useless if you’ve already bought all the in-game cosmetics. Aquillas would be great.
Not that this would be bad but at this point I’d rather they actually just put in some free wep skins instead. This game has barely any weapon skins. Coordinating weapon illusion with the class/career/cosmetics you had in Vermintide was fun. In this game you don’t get to do anything, there’s barely any weapon skins and the ones in the game don’t really go with any of the cosmetics.
So if they’re gonna do “free” content I’d rather they build out the weapon illusion selection first, preferably free picks on the commissary. They could really easily address long standing issues this way too, like how the Helbore lasguns have shitty sights.
I play Tacticus and would have stopped if there was no free way to earn Blackstone (premium currency). I’ve actually bought premium currency because of this model.
Drip feeding the player base Aquilias will increase sales. But, at the same time, I also do not have faith FS would even implement a system that works if they tried.
you’re right about that. personally, i prefer to be able to buy what i want, when i want over free aquilas. i like something, i buy it now and not in 2 weeks. unfortunately, frustrating the player seems to be regarded as something acceptable over there.
