A plea to not "fix" missions staying playable for 24 hours

For those who do not know, a recent mod called OneMoreTry allows us to replay the map we just played, but also to keep playing said map even after it’s rolled off the board. Even better, you can save the ID of the mission and share it with people, and edit that mission ID to play any mission that is still available (in a private game).

Essentially, it means that for 24 hours you can play what you have saved up.
We managed to play an entire day of Hi5 Shock Troop Gauntlet, despite having 0 missions with those modifiers on the board.
For just one day, we were able to escape the abhorrent mission terminal, and not be subjugated to modifiers we did not want to play. It felt phenomenal.

The mod author has said FS is aware of this, and plans on reducing the availability of missions after they’ve gone off the board to 30 minutes.

Fatshark, I am begging you to not do this. This mod, even if just for 24 hours, has been the greatest thing to have ever happened to this game. We finally were able to play what we wanted to a limited degree. We actually guaranteed we would have fun for an entire day.

This mod also allowed True Duoing to finally become something that is doable. Before this mod, we would only have 1 try per map very often, and then 0 guarantee there would even be a map with the same modifiers we wanted to duo on available. We can now actually practice for an entire 24 hours after getting the map/modifier combo we want. Do you know how nice it feels to not have this horrible anxiety that you aren’t going to get an opportunity to practice a map, test things out, and come up with new strats ?

Until you fully implement a way for players to choose a map, difficulty, and modifiers at will, do not fix this. You would effectively kill the first step that anyone has taken to fix the biggest problem with your game, which you seem intent on ignoring completely.

If they fix this… there is no more denying that “they are discussing it internally”. They will have made their stance and it says something along the lines of: “You will play random missions and you WILL like it”

I firmly stand by this post, players require some autonomy over the content they choose to engage with and the mission terminal allows for very little of said autonomy, effectively binding people to play what is available at the moment. While the visual design idea is quite neat - the potential freedom of choice for the games that you want tailored to your needs and the needs of your friends is very minimal and is poorly executed.

Taking away this one small thing that people can work with to accommodate the game to their needs, provided that they choose to work for it, that is also absolutely fair in every single way (people who don’t choose to engage in higher difficulty missions and work for their resources make their choices by playing lower intensity missions and work towards that in the ways already provided) is simply immoral. People close down the game when there is nothing that they find enjoyable to do, and all we want to do is simply to be able to enjoy the game.

Wait a second, you mean people without mods, using Quickplay, could randomly queue into a group running Hi5STG, even when its not on the board???

Why would they take this away? They are mad I tells ya! It doesn’t harm anyone, it just lets people have fun!

A modder fixes a major problem in a game, the company behind the game stops players from enjoying the fix.

If you ever need an example of how out of touch, with their own customers, game industry can be, then this is a perfect example.

Make all missions available and all difficulties available. Also all combinations of conditions.

Put everyone in same match making pool.

However have multi select checkboxes, including an ALL checkbox if you just want fast match making and go with anything.

Dog Spam - No
Sniper - Yes
Lights out - No
Difficulty i.e. I’ll tick say T4 AND T5 only.
Mission 1 - Ok I’ll tick this
Mission 2 - I won’t tick this
etc

  • Match making algorithm just found a mission. This mission has not met your match making requirements above. Back in the match making pool you go. Repeat.

  • Couldn’t find someone who wants same thing as you after x seconds. Lets host one for you and see who else wants the same thing. Go wait in the mission lobby and x seconds countdown before mission starts.

  • It has found another player wanting the same thing. In the lobby/jump into mission you go together.

This way you’re not splitting match making pool. Everyone is in same pool, but it checks the mission parameters and throws you back into match making if those not met, same pool as everyone else.

The less picky, the lower the wait time. If you’re picky with certain mission, certain difficulty, certain condition, you’ll be in for longer wait for certain players out of thousands concurrently seeking the exact same requirements.

Maybe with lower player count, it would just add too much waiting time to implement ability to be so specific. Maybe the server overhead will increase too much taking this into consideration of choice.

discussed internally does not mean the discussion will lead to anything in our favor, or even anything at all. meeting action points, backlog items are for that. i hate when people add more to the word than it means. just hype is built on top of nothing

OneMoreTry starts private games. No, nobody could queue into your game.

I am fully aware of “internally discussing” means and never claimed otherwise or that it means more than it actually does. All I said is that in order to make this “fix” they have to have come to a conclusion on the matter because otherwise, why “fix” it at all?

I’m gonna just keep trying to name games that do it better every single time I see garbage like this.

Vermintide 2 let you choose what missions you wanted to play whenever you wanted and at whatever difficulty. Speaking of which did they add craftable deeds yet?

Regarding True-Duo’ing, you know true solo has been a thing in Darktide right? There are people out there doing it, perhaps they have some other means to practice the maps they want.

Modders once again coming to the rescue. Bumping for visibility.

In the category of “soonTM” like its siblings deed rework, deed improvments and etc.

True solo lets you pick whatever map/difficulty/modifier you want to play and hosts locally, it’s completely different from playing with 2 people.

There is currently 0 way to play or practice on any map/difficulty/modifier combo of your choosing outside of solo.

5 years and still no way to play the deed modifiers you want, but at least VT2 has a modded realm.

I have been playing V2 with mates and it’s so much better to be able to pick missions.
We have all levelled everyone to 35.
Cleared every mission in order on champ.
Working our way through clearing every mission on legend and right after clearing that mission we do legend with all books same mission.
We did some cata last night and failed the same mission 10 times in a row.
It’s way better than dark tides system of random tomes and grims and random missions.
It really just needs more deeds out of chests or a option to make all item drops deed drops unless its a red when your done farming.

If they fix this, it means they are aware of the mission board problems. It means they are aware that the most dedicated part of their player base have been begging for months to put high intensity gauntlet available all the time, and willfully chose to ignore it. Their "radio silence"towards this subject won’t work anymore: it would mean that they now prevent us from having fun on their game not by lack of action, but by an active decision!

Having free choice of mission+modifier for private lobbies, should be a built in function of the game.

If FS remove the function of this mod, without adding the abovementioned function, they are truly lost.

Oh, I think this will be another “Shirtless cosmetic” situation.

You know when they added a bug that was

  • better received than most of their actual updates,
  • didn’t hurt anything other than some visual glitches with some pants, (and a missing Zealot armor i think)
  • showed off the body tattoos that are nigh invisible in any armor available
  • ppl asked them to leave it in

Don’t get me I’m not one who is looking for this much challenge (…yet), but I do understand the frustration.

The shirtless situation was even worse than that lol

  • Introduce a bug that is better received than their actual updates
  • Attempt to fix it and create slendergryn
  • Roll back the hotfix, giving themselves a second chance at an easy W by just leaving it alone
  • Fix it again anyway
