400+ base stat power weapons are coming at one point - and I am worried

Hello!

At this time we know, that certain aspects of the game are either missing or will be added down the line. As many of you know, the highest base stats a weapon can roll is about 380 in total with about 80% in an individual areas such as damage or finesse.

So it is basically very certain, that higher tier weapons with 100% modifiers and 400+ base power in total will arrive eventually.

Given the direction the game takes in item progression and item acquisation … im worried.

What I think it will look like:

You’ll get a 2% chance of getting this kind of item by finishing a heresy / damnation run. Of course it will be completely RNG in both the type of item and which individual stat actually gets 100%. This would flood T4 + T5 with not ready yet players and it would completely render our 370+ weapons useless as potential final end game gear options.

(They could also sell those top tier items for real money - but they won’t. They have had enough of all the shitstorming against them already)

What I truly hope / wish they would do:

Add an NPC / shrine which let us - the players - choose, which individual stat of a weapon gets another +20% on top of what it already has (one time only, you would have to choose which stat to boost). This would empower us to get those 390+ rating weapons “relatively easy” and let’s us customize our loadout even further without making the core design of the loot /shop system of Darktide obsolete. Granted, most would probably just boost the damage modifier. But an ogryn with defence in mind would do otherwise on his shield. A knife zealot maybe prefers finesse/speed/crit bonus. Gun psykers might even settle down on ammo, because ammo is always scarce. It would also motivate us to collect several guns / weapons of each variant with different perks / blessings which we then could adjust the weapons stats a little.

Icing on this delicious cake would be… let us pay that NPC / Shrine with a (hefty) amount of ordo dockets.

What do you guys think?

yeah sure

With this system, won’t you always improve your damage stat ?

Good idea, doesn’t work

Probably in 80% of all cases yes. But not always.

I personally wouldn’t mind if we could not enhance / boost the damage modifier above 80%. This would make us choose another one which would give the weapon a more distinct character. Or maybe let us boost 2 stats.

I think the base game is good and everything around is pedantic bull that keeps you from having fun and trying things out.

This is a mobile game market attached to a decent game, great way to waste a good game.

Just give us the ability to upgrade our weapons to 500/red.
I want to work towards building a complete red arsenal not just play however long this game will last and just hope for good rng rolls.

Agreed, trying to make good weapons in the current system feels like a rip off there are so many ways for you to get a bad roll.

Feels like your hard work goes down the toilet when that happens.

No thank you, I want to be able to work towards 500 base rating or at the very least 380 base rating with the stat weights as I want them with maxed perks and blessings in a meaningful way - through playing like I could in Vermintide as I was promised in Darktide which wasn’t even remotely delivered at all.
Instead I got a bunch of RNG slapped on top of each other that keeps you from any meaningful progression once you’re past 360 in a weapon.

It is still not about being able to get a perfect build in less than a week, but about not being able to get a perfect build - at all.

Not if your damage stat is already high. What this would do is give every weapon in the shop a second chance to be good. Lots of weapons in the shop are close to being good, but with one or two stats dragging it down. This vendor would be able to make those cases something you can work with, which would increase the likelihood of finding something in the store that you want.

One thing would not necessary exclude the other. For example: Give us a better way to get our hands on 370+ rating base weapons with the possibility to boost stats of our choice to above 80% on those weapons ourselves. You know what I mean?

What would be a meaningful way to you? Grinding until the Emperor blesses you eventually with a 400 weapon you actually need/want?

For me, this is not meaningful. It’s tedious grind - of which Darktide has way more than enough already :(.

One thing is for sure: Better weapons are coming at a certain point, otherwise that 0-100% scale wouldnt make any sense at all.

I fear the way we might (not) be able to reach those weapons might be very very tedious and player unfriendly (and render our 370+ weapons useless).

Hence this thread which is more like BEGGING THE DEVS TO NOT SCREW ITEM LOOT SYSTEM OVER MORE

(please)

I don’t understand where this trend of “I don’t want perfect items, give me half assed weapons instead” comes from, not the first post I see.

Like you are going to use a weapon you are not using now because it has 20% more mobility and nothing else.

They are probably going to implement a terrible system for 400 base weapons, but I read your idea and I feel is just as bad as what they can come up with.

The game NEEDS a way to steadily (and steadily, does mean steadily, not rng and not instant either) work towards perfect items, that’s kept vermintide alive for years, without it DT will die.

I’ll add to this, the core gameplay is good? Sure, is it enough to keep a healthy population for a couple of years, if not more? Definitely not, I’m tired of this argument saying the only thing keeping the game from success is the mobile stuff around the gameplay, there’s nothing to do other than run mission after mission, which is similar to VT, but in VT every mission was a little step towards improving your gear, and that little step, that little chance of getting your desired red, that skin you want, gets you to play another mission, and keeps the game alive, here? Nothing, and that’s not even talking about how missions in DT all feel the f*cking same because there’s like 4 different objectives on visually similar maps.

Let’s say I give you everything, you can grab any weapon you want with any blessings you want, the only objective you have now is to play the game for fun, I bet you by February or march the game is flat lining on steamcharts with a myriad of posts calling for “things to do”.

Yes you are right.

I want an approachable way to get 380 rating base weapons too.
On top of that a way, to increase this weapons stats in a way I want.
This weapons would be perfect in that sense, that you cannot get any “better” weapon stats wise.

I PERSONALLY would find weapons with 100% stats in every aspect very very boring. I’d prefer 400 or 420 base weapon stats which still would have strengths and weaknesses.

But I do 100% agree that “perfect” items have to be more in reach for the average joe gamer. ASAP, it’s the games’ single worst flaw atm (apart from crashes).

However, once again too, 400+ base weapons are coming. I just made a suggestion to implement them without ANOTHER tedious RNG grind.

I hope they won’t just be max stat weapon’s I really like the slight variations in the base stats, it makes each weapon feel a bit different and more unique. Honestly it’s hard to guess when we don’t even know for sure what crafting will be like.

There already are different MK for many if not most weapons.
There is no need for having more differences within the same MK of the same weapon type, through different stat distributions based on rng.

We need a system that allows us to modify any item to perfection without any rng involved.
Bring back player agency and let us actually grind for something and let us max all base stats and SELECT (not randomly roll) all perks and blessings (not just one).

For example:
Upgrade tokens obtained from each successfully cleared heresy mission

  • can be used to increase item stats to 80% (all stats can be boosted to 80% one by one, a few % per token)
  • change perks and blessings to any lvl 3 bonus of choice (selected from a list without rng roll, no limitations to how often it can be done per item, no perks/blessings get locked)

Upgrade tokens from successfully cleared damnation missions

  • used to increase item stats to 100% (all stats can be boosted to 100% one by one, a few % per token)
  • change perks and blessings to any lvl 4 bonus of choice (same as above)

Add this and there you have hours upon hours of rewarding grind with 100% player agency and absolutely no rng.

Maybe add a special shiny skin like Vermintide 2 red weapon skins as unlock for when an item is fully „damnationified“ (or a weapon glow for a separate slot, so that it does not interfere with skin sales)
Could even add an extra skin, portrait frame or something for each class, which is unlocked once a maxed version of all class exclusive weapons is obtained.

Before the beta dropped I’d hoped that fatshark had dropped item power and moved back towards VT1 where each weapon’s stats were affected by rarity. Honestly this game would really benefit from athanor/DRG style weapon progression, I really like loot games but Fatshark have shown they can’t come up with a more compelling/functional system beyond the trash slog of VT2’s loot boxes.

I shamelessly up this thread because I’m still freaked out by whatever RNG grindy plans they might have in store for us to get 380++ weapons
