only had a few games with each so far so might uncover hidden depths yet but…
Meh?
they dont feel different , there just more swords.
the power activation is clunky, the force activation… kill 20 trash in fast succession with no gaps to kill a bunch more trash…hmmm seems aa lot weaker than either version we already had.
all that finesse and smart intricacy we saw of the pickaxes seems to have evaporated and these feel very old fashioned in their mix n match combos.
like i say room yet to find things i have missed but on the whole there leaving a distinctly meh first impression.
Have only tried them in the grinder, they seem ok. I imagine the force sword can have climax like moments from time to time with the special attack.
As for the power sword, when i saw the blessings 'releases an explosion on max charge" (paraphrasing) this is what i expected :
Instead what we get is a barely noticeable fart that deals no damage…
Left a bad taste in my mouth. Darktide has a track record of making things sound cool but ending up pathetically lame.
Like the psyker’s charged strikes, or smite in itself, or early thunderhammer.
zealot 2h sword is slow(both mobility and attack; in comparison eviscerator has same sprint speed as normal sword capping at +0.27/80%) and not particularly powerful(best I’ve done, without ult, is a 3 hit kill on crusher, vet crutchsword can easily do it in 2, crit can make it close to 1 shot, while having Sunder blessing to let it cleave through crusher/bulwark), psyker 2h sword just doesn’t fit well(psyker benefits from fast attacks a lot, and the huge amount of peril the wave special generates can easily end your Scrier’s)
Force swords I’m digging a lot. I tend not to let the stupid power bar build up at all, its way better as a spammable stagger. Having the 9m invisible stagger bullet push attack is amazing like always and their single target chains can dumpster things fast.
Relic blades…fell into the traps I feared. Trying to optimally manage heat and disengage/re-engage is annoying to me, at least if we were all approaching this with the open mind that it would be less irritating than a regular power sword. Well, it really isn’t if you want max uptime on power state…instead of powering on for a couple swings, I was powering off at near max heat almost all round. Maybe in less intense Damnation its better. Also that was with running its maintenance blessing, I imagine its even worse not using the chained weakspot cooling…
I prefer the Force Sword out of the two and not just because of funky psyker stuff. The animations use some interesting guards from forms of European longsword and it is a delight to see such a weapon get that much attention in how it is presented. Plus I do far better at staying alive with it than I normally do as a Psyker, so far, as though the second mark were made just for me.
The Relic Blade is alright, I really like how the power field is activated and its heat bar. I would personally love it if we received a new 1H Power Sword that used the same mechanic. Otherwise the charging stab is excellent, but, generally speaking, I did not have so much fun with it.
You can have the best moveset ever and still have a mid weapon if it does mediocre dmg/cleave + poor mobility(weird that it has such punishing sprintspeed modifier on mobility when it has a sprinting attack).
It’s by no means mediocre. In fact, it’s scoring in the top effectiveness against all enemy type and scenarios in the game. https://youtu.be/ZErf-B0rToU?t=517 credit to reginald.
Your opinion is not only subjectively wrong, its objectively incorrect.
Fact: Sunder exists on crutchsword.
Fact: crutchsword easily 2 taps crushers without crit.
Even dueling sword can reach crusher one tap with the damage ults. (without having to sprint btw)
Not to mention zealot 2h sword has -0.13 sprintspeed at 60%, barely reach above 0(0.02) at 80%. It only cleaves through 2 and hits the 3rd cultist rager. Crutchsword can hit any realistic amount of ragers.
New Zealot Sword is good, build better and fight better instead of relying on crutches. My friend and I went in with almost identical builds and we were just lawnmowers mowing through everything. Crushers came up and I tossed out stun grenades and power on, heavy attack, heavy attack, light attack dead. Rinse and repeat. That was white 280 as well.
if you need stun grenade, build better and fight better instead of relying on crutches.
btw if you’re killing a crusher from full hp in 2 heavy 1 light you’re probably not playing on damnation. Damnation Crusher takes around 4 hits only sprint stab barely gets to 3 without crit/conditionals.
tbh that’s the reason I don’t like relic blades, they feel overengineered
the force greatswords still have a lot of variety but without feeling like someone went ‘what can we do to make weapon suck that doesnt involve numerical stats’
relic blades kinda do for me, one more than the other but still
especially the differentiation of slide attack from sprint attack, just dont like it personally feel like they carve out of the same niche and it was already small
