I agree with @Throne_of_Rats, 1h sword is pretty good on kerillian (one of the best weapons for HM even).
One thing I’ve loved since VT1 is precisely the fact that coming from other games I’d ask randoms “is it ok if I bring this?” or “Which weapon should I bring?” and the answer was almost exclusively “play with whatever you have fun with. It’s better to have something you’re familiar with”.
VT2 is more complex so you have to take things into account - mostly making sure you have a lot of block cost reduction. But there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be unable to use what you want.
Some weapons are quite suboptimal, but you can still use them. I keep using the single axe on the bounty hunter for example.
I’ve been criticized for my choice but never flatout kicked from a lobby for it.
A friend told me he met a lot of pubs with that attitude. I guess I pub less.
There’s really no reason why you shouldn’t play with what you want, provided you know what you are doing, so if you get in one of those lobbies I guess you should leave and find another.
