Would a sentenced psyker really end up in a inquisition squad?

This question bothers me. Would it not be extremely risky to have a criminal psyker end up in a disposable inquisition unit? Especially while there is clearly evidence of chaos influence in these missions?

Yes, it is somewhat strange, but it’s not impossible for the Inquisition to do so. They’ve done more dangerous stuff too :skull:

“Psykers of grades Zeta and Epsilon inclusive are powerful psykers who can manifest their abilities without significant effort and would represent a great danger to Humanity were they to be possessed by a Warp entity. However, should they possess the mental fortitude and undergo proper and rigorous training, they can become Sanctioned Psykers.”

That’s what our Psykers are. Powerful enough to be of use, not powerful enough to be a threat to the Librarians of the Astartes.

Just from a practical point of view. There is a criminal, which can turn into demon at any time and take a whole planet with him in a worst case scenario. Luckily he has implants and is under strict supervision.

Would anyone really allow his transfer to god knows who? A death sentence would be more reasonable, right? Then again, the Inquisition did have worse ideas.

You know those collars that all the Psyker helmet/torso have ?

Those are usually filled with some explosives too.

You think any of us are getting evacuated if Grendyl decides to use exterminatus?

Attrition rate is high in the service of the Inquisition and high willpower Psykers are rare enough that they haven’t replaced us. They still need our Psykers.

To me, the missions we are sent on are supposed to be suicide missions, so a psykers brain imploding or a spawn sprawling out of its warp infused torso is part of the acceptable parameters.

Picking up grimoire’s and bringing them back to the Mourningstar is another topic but i find that far more dangerous than someone who is at risk of failing a hazard check every time they sneeze.

Or when the whole Scab/Dreg situation is fixed, we’re all back to the chopping block.

Now that you mention it. Honestly never thought about it before. Hording chaos artifacts, letting rogue psykers run into demons and bringing them back to the ship.

I think Grendl is just not that great of a inquisitor. There, I said it.

penal battalions doing the worst jobs were a thing irl aswell, and w40k being w40k was set to exacerbate that to the nth degree as with everything else

our handlers should sound annoyed by the fact you came back, if they are portrayed like they care is just bad writing out of touch with the world

even the fact that Mazozi shows up in time to extract the strike team shouldn’t be something that we were supposed to take for granted

That is a good point. Somehow we still feel like heroes in this story. I guess the game logic demands it.

Of course, me and Grandel go waaay back. I used to tink my glass on the ship and say cheers Gromdyl whenever I was done with latrine duty. Ahh good time. I’ll never forget Grindollf.
Surely he would remember me, right G…Gr..hmm.. G-man!?

Well, the fact that we did side WITH the Inquisition/Enforcers/Arbites aboard the prison ship in the tutorial was a point in our favor, plus the fact that they can see that (most) of our charges are trumped-up nonsense, we become a useful asset in a situation where they’re strapped for warm bodies.

Yes, when the Black Ships round up Psykers some are delivered to Terra for the Emperor to consume, some delivered to be turned into Sanctioned Psykers, and some given to groups like the Inquisition to be used as they see fit.

We’re the latter.
