So…i was recently just messing around on the xbox version of Darktide and i found a way to play solo with bots on Darktide on normal unchanged non hacked darktide on console. Do not get me wrong it is a horribly convoluted and pain in the ass way to do it but it is technically possible to pull off and i have discovered that it is perfectly possible to go through matches alone with bots on up to at LEAST Maelstrom with normal vanilla bots. I even beat a Heresy with them but do not recommend doing this unless you are far more skilled then myself.
I would not go so far as to call the bots good by any stretch of the imagination but they do work for people like myself who simply want a normal casual match with no pressure, no fighting over resouces and no being forced to speed run the whole level or chase down the damn zealot who ran off alone with 2 coherence skill and stealth field thinking they are rambo and got downed again!
It would be as easy as just removing the two player minimum from private matches…thats all. Nobody who wants to play with only bots is expecting BOTS to carry them through Heresy or above any damn way. Remove the 2 player minimum and let us private match! Its not like its the damn locks and will unbalance the game (or whatever logic is working there).
Couldn’t agree more. Having just gone back into more VT2 recently as Necro Sienna, every single match I’ve had Bounty Hunter Saltz bot get stuck at some point just running around aiming his ultimate and doing nothing while getting owned in melee.
My bots in VT2 get to use my kits, at least, but they’re still dumb and buggy as hell sometimes. I’m perfectly capable of doing solo private matches by using my sister’s account to login on console and allow me to private match.
Like, I can already feckin’ do it but they make me jump through these stupid hoops. Just let us solo play with bots, damn it! (Also, the profanity filter is obnoxious AF. Didn’t realize this was a forum for kindergartners.
I would assume that they will not enable solo play, without improving the bot behavior.
If solo play with bots was available, people would likely have higher expectations from the bots, and would start complaining about the bots being too bad.
Instead of being a missing feature, it would be an available feature with issues.
Right now, it is clear that the bots are not supposed to actually perform well.
If solo play was available, i think that many people would assume “they let me play solo with these bots, so i should be able to beat missions with the bots”.
I am not saying that this is a good reason to keep the option to play solo with bots from those who want it (and are aware of the poor bot performance), but i think that this might be the reasoning for them not doing it (at least not yet).
Speculating; the reason we haven’t got solo mode, but we have got duo mode, is because running the CPU/AI server side isn’t cost effective for one player.
I know they are looking into running the AI client side for solo, the above might be why.
