It needs to do way less damage to specialists and armored elites, as intended. Its meant to be a horde clear and its an everything clear too.
Absolutely low skill low effort everything clear that outpaces other player’s ability to engage deprives other players of their portion of the fun. Watching someone do amazingly while working for it can be fun. watching someone literally delete everything while holding LMB is boring.
I do wonder whether the answer might be to cut the number of darts in half, give it a slight pen and damage increase and a much, much longer recharge rate. Then its a useful spam for tight situations but you wouldn’t be able to just waltz through a mission using it on T3 or T4, which I have done. Who needs a Force Sword or stave when you can just spam Assail, use Venting Shriek to purge peril and carry on?
I feel that it should be on a similar level to the Ogryn’s 60 second rock recharge and the Veteran’s Demolition Stockpile which returns a grenade every 60 seconds.
I apologise for being a useful team player. I’ve never been a bother to anyone even with a second Assail Pysker in my lobby and the Veterans were still getting lots of kills because we didn’t just only use Assail. Because I have a build which doesn’t rely entirely on Assail, unlike some. If the game overhauls everyone else, Assail won’t have to be nerfed because it will only be useful in the situations I use it in, which is as it’s blitz role.
It’s hilariously the opposite of a clutch tool. It excels at safe mid range engagements, but it absolutely gets you killed in close-up clutch situations.
Psyker Blitzes will never be really clutch (well, you might argue the case for smite, but Brainburst and Assail are not clutch). The Psyker is most vulnerable in the Blitz state and unlike the grenade types of the others, you cannot throw it out and then switch to melee.
The best clutch tool in the Psyker’s toolbox is the Force Sword and the Shield Ability or Venting Shriek.
Heretical cactus has been since the early days. I’m sure he belongs to the players who clutched the most in this thread.
The others attack your statement because the Blitz state leaves you vulnerable to attack while granting you the least amount of effective dodges, with slow movespeed and dodge distance to boot.
Essentially, if you get caught in melee with your Blitz out (that Blitz not being Smite), you’re caught with your pants down. Not a situation you ideally want to be in.
It’s arguably a tool in a clutch kit, if not a clutch tool in itself.
Whatever anyone says about it, it excels at clearing trash over a spread out area with a minimum of time, effort and attention required. Not having to even think about trash enemies is pretty big when you’re the last one alive, let alone when you’ve got big hitters breathing down your neck and those trash enemies would otherwise be making nuisances of themselves by preventing you from dealing with the big boys efficiently.
On its own it isn’t going to clutch for you, but it definitely makes a big difference in those situations.
You absolutely can use assail in melee, since it will stagger almost every enemy with headshot as long as you have them all in your los.
You just have to do a little of kiting and be mindful of some straggler. It’s even easier than using gun in melee tbh but too bad a lot of peeps get tunnel vision when using Assail.
It’s so dangerous to do that though. There’s a dead zone just outside of melee range where shards often just fly around the thing you’re trying to kill.
It’s really depend on your melee skill too tbh, for me I just react to enemy melee cue by pulling my Duelling sword to guard, throw some melee out to stagger them, slide backward and then back to spamming Assail.
Not quite a braindead gameplay but as I said, it’s still easier than trying to use gun or staff in melee. You can see that it even stagger Mauler so I can keep enough distance to use Voidstrike.
To add something else on the pile, turns out that Assail is being affected by at least one weapon blessing even without the weapon out. +90% rend on crit is definitely too much.
I see it all the time, Assail Psyker spamming until something goes wrong and he folds like wet paper because he does not have anything that can helps you survive. I was doing that myself until realised I need tools that help me survive. Now running smite/shriek/warp I can save most runs (HI-STG).
Sound like he just bad at the game rather than because he was spamming Assail.
Assail let Psyker trigger a lot of toughness regen from perk so unless he eat multiple hits in quick succession like dumbo it’s one of the tool that can actually help you survive
Enemies now deal more damage and psyker dont have many options to reduce it or escape. You get hit by bruiser and your toughness is gone. You cant depend on toughness to stay alive.
The fact that you can eat a hit from bruiser and still being fine and dandy was because you have toughness, and if you let him hit you again after that without doing anything you’re already doing something wrong.
What is your point? Toughness will not do more than one melee hit from anything and you talking that Assail helps with regen. “Dont get hit” is really weak argument.
