Probably because the current 1st-person animation is far closer to how one actually defends with a (historical) rapier. You don’t block, you parry. I for one welcomed the change, especially as it doesn’t affect mechanics at all. Would’ve loved to see something more sensible-looking for the 2-h swords, too. As for 3rd-person view, it’s hard to make animations that look good, and in this case, noticeable. I figure it would’ve been changed too if they could’ve figured out how to make it easily seen.
