Been playing Vermintide 2 lately and… I only have one thing to say.
I’ve seen peoples complain about the bots in Vermintide 2 but my god why can’t we have similar bots in Darktide ? I know bots will always be worse than actual players (Then, it depends on the player…)
But why can’t we have bots that actually pick up stims, use them if needed or give them to you when you’re not carrying any ? (Don’t make them pickup ammo crates and medkit cause they’re rarer than stims and I don’t want them to use them randomly)
Why can’t we have the possibility to choose which classes we want as bots, like in Vermintide 2 and why cant we have said bots use their ability, again, like in Vermintide 2, like, my god, Darktide bots at that point feels like i’d fare well better if I was completely alone doing the missions.
If Vermintide 2 bots are bad, hell i’d rather have them than the ones in Darktide.
Is there any explicitly said reasons from the dev team for bots to be this bad in Darktide or not wanting to make them similar as Vermintide 2 ?
Like seriously, just did a mission and the bots got stuck inside Swagger little shuttle thingy after the door closes. fml
Edit: I want to add that the devs managed to make ENEMIES uses stims, why not the bots ?
At some point in the game’s development, their vision included only the veteran class. Everything else was, in some sense, bolted on. You could really feel this at launch. Then at some point they pivoted and decided to make it a game for zealots - more like vermintide. That’s not the whole story/history…
I’m going a little off topic so here’s my speculation: The bot code may be quite old, a vestige of the time that only vet existed.
The new Return to the Reik Mission’s going to keep me busy for a little bit until the Q4 2025 Darktide Update. It feels stupid to anticipate a Solo Mode anymore at this point… but I’m always open to such surprises!
Nah, there is an Ogyrn bot and Zealot bot, you can see them in the tutorial and spawn them in the Psyk with mods.
I’d guess the reason we only have Vet bot and that it sucks is because fleshed out bots were one of the things cut to rush the game out (remember, the game released with a lot of unfinished systems). Vet bot was deemed the most finished and used.
Fun fact: Vet bot could use Heavy Sword long before it was actually given to the Vet class.
Too bad they fixed the bots, unsanctioned the better bots mod, broke the bots, and now there’s no one around to sanction the updated better bots mod or fix the bots.
I remember when the trash scavenger worked seperate from the one on the tree you could have near infinite ammo keeping a bot alive. Ever since that fix I do not even risk toughness damage to pick up a bot.
Better than players that leave when they fall one time… Hell, I got to kill a Daemonhost that one of the bot triggered and it managed to tank it for a solid minute before i realise i can just kill it and the bot wasnt nearly about to die. All three bots even managed to bring the DH to half health.
When the bot triggered it i was like “well, this one going to die” and moved on, turns out it very much surprised me.
They’re decent in melee, but it just all crumbles down when one bot goes down, as they will all hardfocus on picking it back up, even if there’s 15 crushers around the downed one, and that’s how they just all chain die.
That recent change for them not to eat heals in Mortis Trials is Emprah-sent, we used to try to barrel them off or get them killed in other ways.
Used to actively avoid the med station in 2 mans, now we trash-talk them when they’re near it and can’t heal. I’m sure they hear us…the only heals they now get are accidental heal ‘nades.
