Been playing a lot of Auric but the 3 builds I have constantly cause people to complain about it to me. Cant play smite psyker it just makes auric too boring…cant play gun psyker because im stealing all the ammo from vets even if I am able to kill hordes better then most…cant play purg psyker because with flames everywhere im limited everyones LoS. I just do no know what build to play to get people to stop complaining about it so tell me do I just sit in the back and BB my heart out??
EDIT: BTW this isnt me saying they are wrong this is just me wanting to know what will cause the least amount of frustration to others in my squad. On any of my other classes I never hear any complaints its just as soon as I jump on my psyker which I might add ive put the most time into. I just constantly have people complaining so I just want to play a build that wont cause others frustration while I can enjoy the game myself.
Rule 1 of Auric no matter the class is don’t waste ammo on hordes unless you really have extra ammo on the map or need to push through in a tough spot. If you’re playing gun psyker spend a couple talent points to pick up some melee buffs and learn to use a mix of melee and ranged.
Smite has its role to play but if it’s all you’re doing then you’re unnecessarily slowing down the run. A mix of flame staff and smite is not a bad build, flame the trash and smite the crusher and bulwark patrols when it gets spicy for the team. I rarely see people complain about flame staff lately.
All the staffs can be fun, just need to pair them with the right build and melee weapon to cover gaps in what you’re able to kill.
People might get on your case about literally w/e, esp smite.
If I had to pick a non-offensive build? I don’t think anyone’s ever complained about my BB / Electrokinetic / Knife / Bot Left Keystone Psyker. I take BB and the 10% pop node but don’t use the ability. Just get 6 stacks and use staff, including left click, on everything. Knife for mobility. Peril block for rezzing.
I play as an Ogryn mostly and I’ll welcome any psycher with any build they want. If other people don’t like your build for a single mission then they can find another.
Play with whatever build you have the most fun with.
I’ll always punch the air if I get a psycher with a shield though. Damn useful in a pickle!
Funnily enough Lightning staff is the only weapon that I actively dodge (apart from stealth+knife Zealots). It makes playing a frontliner absolutely miserable.
Here you go. This is my favorite Crit Surge build. Strategy is in the build notes, didn’t mention Assail though. Just dump Assail into pox hordes before engaging with combat knife for Malefic damage boost and Warp Rider.
I do not play Psyker on Auric just because i flat out dont have the skill for it but on my other classes ive seen psykers screamed at for EVERYTHING.
Smite we have all seen
Assail is bullsht horde clear, headpop is "weak sht", if your using a gun AT ALL your taking ammo you dont need, if your using a staff ive seen nearly every staff bitched about.
The shield “cant be seen though” the push moves people around too much. The force sword is a crutch. I am convinced there is literally nothing a psyker can do to not be yelled at. I even saw one use only force sword and Scrier’s to try to avoid it and got yelled at for being useless at range. I hate to say learn to live with it but i dont see it changing any time soon.
If people complain about you, immediately wonder, if you are performing well.
I use purg all the time. Never any complaints.
When you eat a lot of ammo, most people won‘t really care as long as you are not wasting it, and are making good use of it (not spraying at hordes, but taking out specialists and ranged elites).
If you pick up every ammo drop there is, that might be different.
People tend to complain much more, if the mission does not go very well.
So if it is a bit of a struggle, your choice to consume ammo as a psyker might be criticized.
If it feels like you are doing more harm than good with your purgatus staff, people might complain about the bright lights.
If the team does not have the greatest clear speed and you are constantly smiting, even when it is pretty pointless, people will probably complain.
If you constantly position your bubble shields badly, people might complain about bad visibility, when they would not complain about well positioned and actually useful bubbles.
Or maybe they are just cunters who complain for no good reason. That is also possible.
You really should just play whatever you enjoy, so long as you do your best with the mission and don’t actively try to harm or troll your team. Yes, some of it will not be liked by everyone, but that’s their problem. And I say that as someone who just made a thread about how tired I am of smite and how it desperately needs a nerf / rework.
But as others have said, as a gunpsyker you really don’t want to waste that ammo on hordes. You have assail, your melee (Illisi is excellent for horde clear), maybe even Vent & Creeping Flames for that.
Ofc no matter what you play & use, there are usually ways to play that are minimally disruptive to your team. But that’s true for any class, not just psykers. Just focus on enjoying the game and learning as you do!
The psyker has really big problem now with how anti-team oriented they are right now.
Smyker makes killing hordes slower - it keeps them spread out so team has to run more to kill them all, limits cleave and prevent all “on dodge/on damage/on cleave etc.” perks/blessings from triggering becasue it turns off AI, limits the power of grenades (same horde could be cleared with 2 vet nades once it’s packed up + few swings from heavy cleave Ogryn/Zealot instead of smyker keeping them standing everywhere…)
Purgatory staff is most annoying. As you said, it just covers whole screen and limits your LOS and when I try to snipe specials/elites I have to spam tag like crazy becasue my screen is covered in bright green/blue flames all the time. Add to that normal stuff that makes LOS harder as usual and it’s just annoying as hell.
Gun psyker is cool to play, but if I play Vet and someone plays Gun lagger Ogryn… well, lets just say, you picked Psyker for a reason, right? Guns were not it. Ammo is pretty limited on Auric, especially HI + Shock. Let dedicated shooty classes do their job. We don’t have magic staffs…
