Honestly I can’t see why it can’t be for both
Like I can understand a lot of the zealot cosmetics we have now wouldn’t fit
But hood and gasmask would be a great fit for vet as well. I really hope fatshark literally do the very simple of thing of making available for veteran as well.
I just want the helmet off the game cover lol, Don’t know why Fatshark put it on the game cover and on some npcs in game but made it so you can’t get it for you’re character at all in game not even with the funny money
The only good commissars, understanding the job and all the tools at their hand seem to be the named ones:
Ibram Gaunt
Victor Hark
Severine Raine
Ciaphas Cain
Sebastian Yarrick.
All of them executed soldiers they deemed deserving the judgment.
All of them struck fear into soldiers heart to achieve whatever they needed to achieve.
All of them encouraged their soldiers.
All of them bonded (to a certain degree) to their charges.
All of them used propaganda to ralley on the troops.
All of them lied and told selective truths.
It is the nameless Commissar, that is written so badly as if they all were tactical imcompetent idiots just happy to shoot soldiers and waiting for the oportunity to do so.
But I have to admit: sometimes a soldier leaving their post to aid the medics in their job might lead to more casulties. First priority in tactical situations is to keep the enemy down with fire so that medics might do their job as save as possible … so the Commissar might have tried to prevent his line from falling apart out of the “urge to helpt”.
but I can’t remember that mentioned text atm, so I’m not sure about it and would have to double check.
The Imperium is cruel because it cares; because it’s mired in a situation so grim that it’s often necessary to trade thousands or millions of lives to save trillions. That’s the reality that Commissars operate in: where you might have to field-execute one man to prevent his panic infecting the rest of the firing line because morale can be a fragile thing and you really need everyone concentrating on bringing down that alien behemoth screaming up the hill towards your position because if they don’t then you’re all going to die.
No. Cruelty is cruel because it comes from a lack of care. Evil is oftentimes simply banal and occurs usually because the ones that could prevent it just don’t care. The imperial commissars are modelled on the commissars of the soviet union in all but appearance. They are political officers. Political. Political officers. By design, their training is not aimed towards producing capable officers, but ideological enforcers. Skill and capability get substituted for blind ideological obedience and brainwashing during their training. If you think the reasons that the nameless commissars of the imperium use to justify mass-killings and purges of a given population are silly and unrealistic, you will find plenty occurrences in the history of the Soviet Union that were far more cruel, unnecessary, gratuitous and downright self-defeating.
The best quote to give an example of the modern mindset of that would be from Arkady Babchenko, a Russian journalist and writer that fought in the Chechen wars as a Russian conscript:
Everybody beats everyone.
The dembels, with three months service to go, the officers, the warrant officers. They get stinking drunk and then hammer the ones below them. Even the colonels beat the majors, the majors beat the lieutenants, and they all beat the privates; and granddads beat new recruits.
No-one talks to each other like human beings, they just smack each other in the mouth. Because it’s easier that way, quicker and simpler to understand. Because ‘you’re all going to snuff it anyway, you bitches’.
Because there are unfed children back home, because the officer corps is addled with impoverishment and hopelessness, because a dembel has three months left, because every second man is shellshocked. Because our Motherland makes us kill people, our own people, who speak Russian, and we have to shoot them in the head and send their brains flying up the walls, crush them with tanks and tear them to pieces.
Because these people want to kill you, because your soldiers arrived yesterday straight from training and today they are already lying on the airstrip as lumps of charred flesh, and flies lay eggs in their open eyes, and because in a day the company is reduced to less than a third, and God willing, you’ll stay among that third.
Because the one thing that everyone knows is how to get drunk and kill, kill and kill some more. Because a soldier is a stinking wretch, and a spirit doesn’t have any right to live at all, and to beat him is to actually do him a favour. ‘I’ll teach you what war is about, you pricks! You can all have a smack in the mouth so you don’t think life is too rosy, and thank your mother that she didn’t have you six months earlier or you’d all be dead now!’
I just hope the body will be somewhat recon oriented… with the mod that allow to recolor locally, it would suit well.
For the “helmet”…
I don’t know if they could choose worse. I guess it is cause they hated to have to rework veteran skill tree, and veteran class had to pay for that.
Would love to have a true kasrkin helmet… but we will have a gas mask awful instead.
(specially cause I love the stealth gameplay of the veteran that push me to play this class more and more)
That looks so cool shame fatshark would add that and charge an arm and leg for it and for it to be missing the goggles or some other part so they can sell you the whole thing 7 months later for a whole new price coughcough Steel legion gasmask cough
It’s from Justin D Hills “Cadia Stands” - The Planet is already lost and the beaten Cadian regiments try to enter the evacuation barks. The commissar sees one soldier in the column aiding wounded comrades who hasn’t a rifle. He questions the soldiers and find out that this is a decorated hero who lost his rifle in extremely rough combat - then he executes the soldier for losing his rifle.
it’s not that the last two are unreasonable but that it’s funny hurting you’re self is seen as worse than bad talking the full on god they are told to look up to or die
Hurting you’re self you get flogged, flayed then shot
