I do not mind them changing those spots as long as they make sure that there still is an good alternative spot in the area.
It encourages looking around and thinking, when ever something gets changed.
And it breaks the monotony a little.

Escort missions are horrible and unfun.
Defense mission like fortunes of war would be great. Make it give increasing amounts of plasteel with each surviving wave and the option to extract every few waves.
I wouldn’t describe Fortunes of War as a defense mission. Survival would be a better descriptor for it.
damn bro, calm down, no need to get your panties in a bunch over me saying that something was your opinion and somebody saying that they actually wanted defense missions, take a nap and drink some milk you big baby.
The irony is beyond you, apparently.
Well in the browser sense. But you’re right. I’d much rather have a survival mission, now that I think about it.
Escorts can be used in multiple ways:
VIP
That’s one I wouldn’t like, single escort target that need to be protected, but it’s just a dude, so if they die they’re dead. Which would lead to the mission being lost.
Could also have them just drop prone and have to be revived, or make them really tanky (Like how DRG’s Doretta is)
Herding
Multiple possible Npc to escort, this here could work with some Servitors, having to escort them from their spawn point to a working station.
Cart
This is what they use in VT2 (Hunger in the Dark, War Camp, Empire at Flame), where the escort target is not being targeted by the enemies, this could work here, just need to be explained on why the enemies don’t target it (or just say it’s for gameplay purpose)
As for survival missions and defence missions, the 1st should be its own “mode”, to avoid quickplaying into it. While the 2nd would end up being boring faster than the new maps do, as you’re basically just doing a defence segment for longer than usual
how is it irony, you’re just being rude so i responded in kind.
Escorting a vehicle, a tank etc, would be nice. It could destroy gun emplacements, gates as you move through the map. It could have some NPC infantry following it, mostly useless, just there for the atmosphere and to get killed off over time. They could even introduce a new enemy type, a rocket launcher trooper you would have to prioritise to protect the vehicle. Variety is always nice.
Talking about that I wouldn’t mind some green maps, with forest/jungle/overgrown hubs at least.
Think it through. You might get it if you try.
Like the short story it would be cool if Hadron was actually along as a bot ( like in the introduction level) and had to get through rhe game.
As long a it wasn’t an autofail if she had no health left ( or hd no actual health as such but hd to get to the end level with alive players )but only if all players died.
Escort missions should be handled very, very, very carefully. There are so many potential pitfalls that can breed resentment in the players and make such missions an absolute pain. I could give chapter and verse on old games and newer ones that are so incredibly frustrating because of ‘escort’ stuff. Occasionally, it is done well, but so very rarely.
It could work in Darktide, if handled extremely carefully, but the actual escorting would have to be kept to a minimum and be linear, without players being punished for the AI behaviours of the NPCs, and that escorting should be minimal at best.
The minimum conditions I would impose on an escort mission’s VIP are:
*This one might seem obvious but I’ve seen VIPs in games move slower than players, which is just rage-inducing as you run round and round them.
I think if done right, these could be very fun changes of pace. The problem I think Fatshark currently faces is the dichotomy between being a horde game and wanting to have more narrative.
Any changes in gameplay to facilitate better storytelling and/or a diverse play experience could alienate the people who only want to play the horde game as it is advertised.
On the other hand if they separate the more story focused missions into the “Special Assignments” section like they did for the twins, they could make some very unique and fun levels, but also lose out that feeling of storytelling in the usual quickplay.
Which is a bummer, but I think that’s probably the best compromise they could have if they want to please both crowds.
Personally id like the escort IF and ill use hadron for this example just cuz
1:the person /object being escorted is immune to control effects (ie Trappers, muties and so on) for just…pure sanity
2: hadron can defend herself more or less but wont do the mission for you. She is able to take damage but it takes a fair ammount to down her (scaling with difficulty)
3: if she can go down she can revive herself after x ammount of time in addition to being rezzed by the team. her being downed does not fail the mission but can slow it a bit if your doing a bad job at escorting
4: the mission CAN fail if the team goes down in the usual way as maybe she cant/wont get up the team?
Probably not perfect but just some random ideas that might mage an escort duty interesting.
I love the idea of having to defend a convoy of tanks or a train carrying tanks etc. Could be cool.
Protecting an individual would be fine as long as they don’t take damage… Because then there’s no frustrations or blame. They can go off and hide until the action is over
VT2 had this with the explosive barrels on mine carts.
That sounds pretty neat, like those Warframe missions where you hold points and the waves just keep getting bigger along with the rewards.
Defence is really something that would be great in this game.
Escort, like others, I doubt I would like…
Assault could also be fun
Yea I was thinking the same thing, Maybe a defense mission and escort combined.
Could rip it straight from L4d2 with gas cans to bring to the tank while defending the area. once the tank has fuel it can break through the wall, then the next section would be getting ammo for the tank.
I enjoyed DRG escort with the giant drill which FS could also rip from that mission archetype as well. We never had a double-back type mission, which can be really fun if Darktide ever figured out how to change a level layout during a mission , running away from nurgle growth or a gas leak after destroying the OBJ could be interesting.
Or black hawk down - locate a missing operative with Intel, who’s crashed somewhere on the surface, then have to get them the hell outta there!
