I remember how excited I was when I first unlocked the shot gun. Then I realised it was terrible.
Yes you can do a combo of blessings which just about make it playable but it’s still bad

You don’t wnat gun, you want a DS.
Yes, that was literally what was said and not you pulling some screeching midwit whataboutism about dueling sword like every topic needs to be about it, or any trash unused weapon automatically becoming it when buffed (even if its in the ranged category and not melee). That’s definitely not it right.
I have said elsewhere.
That there should be two shotguns.
One slug, one buck shot. One for armour pen and single target damage, one for soft targets and mobs.
Shotguns are pathetic at the moment, and one of a few weapons that need a buff, whilst others need like ds need a nerf.
The whole balance needs to pancaked around a middle game.
Edit: 3x shotguns, If you want to include the double barrel.
Then its good you aren’t the final say because those are horrible suggestions. We already have the revolver to supercede any current and future slug shotguns. They should not make the advantage of any shotgun that it uses a single projectile and is in fact not a shotgun. ‘Make it a rifle instead boom solved’. It will always be inferior to the revolver that does the same thing but with mobility.
And a mob and weak unarmored killing shotgun is exactly what they already do well, and despite this go unused. So yeah no I’d rather have actual ideas that involve thinking take precidence here. As it already shows walking into it with no other idea than ‘dueling sword bad’ makes for a horrible thoughtless carving out of weapons YOU don’t care for. With no justification besides ‘the dueling sword’.
I was the exact same then I realised I was expecting something different than its intended role, then I learnt to use them and now I love them. I prefer Sluggun more than Boltgun for some comps and it works fine.
The other 2 arent really my thing, but they pack a punch and the Sluggun, having the weakest lclick, still has insane stagger, so the Lawbringer and Dragons Breath will only be better for stopping a specialist or rager dead in its tracks.
I don’t agree with Death Guard on pretty much anything, but the Revolver and the Sluggun vs Ogryns the difference is night and day. Shotguns are control weapons foremost. Instantly opening up a Bulwark or knocking a Crusher down are things a Revolver cannot do. Yes, this assumes they do not have their cc immunity up but thats the skill, and the immunity doesnt last long.
Im expecting a counter comment regarding the soft CC nature of the Revovler on these targets so I’ll just add on to my comment. Yes the Revovler can semi stagger a Crusher on the second HS and kill a Bulwark from the front by getting a crit headshot on his head above the shield, but these are not reliable compared to the slugs doing what I described, which are outside of cc immunity.
Wow you can do 400 damage to a crusher and knock him down? Revolver’s definitely in shambles with its crit damage so nuts killing Bulwark in one hit as Psyker is a thing. I notice in a lot of those ‘whatrboutdis’ thing experts pull giving us their takes that they didn’t point out why or how this is better in any way. Like knocking ogryns and killing them in 5+ hits being better than 1-2 (and Vet can kill crusher with 1 revolver crit). How does that not make my case for me. Stagger power isn’t the same instant game state change as ‘dead’. And you can only do one of those decent hits a second roughly, since you need to special action load another shell between shots that are not wholly useless. Its not good. But seeing you in another topic bemoaning how everyone else is just doing it wrong I’m not surprised. That is always how the shotgun strawman goes, because if the shotguns had anything good about them it’d do the arguing for them. The truth is like a lion after all.
So my whataboutism is akin to an example of a certain class getting a crit on a certain build with a 15% proc chance.
Ok.
Instantly opening a Bulwark means instantly deleting said Bulwark. Knocking a Crusher down means an easy kill and more importantly its not a threat with its dodgechecks. I thought this was obvious, my apologies.
You spec reload speed for weapons that reload a lot or use altfire. Again, I thought this goes without saying. if you need 1 second to leverage a successful run you’re leaving a lot to be desired from your teamwork.
We’re doing that thing where you want everything to be a homogenised ezmode railgun and I don’t, and Im happy to flog this dead horse until the cows come home.
Thanks for calling me an expert. I dont play on difficulties where everything instantly dies so I guess there’s a difference there. I don’t play on those difficulties because everything fun or engaging dies instantly. Thats not fun or engaging for me. I don’t need to feel powerful.
Can you elaborate on your lion.
I’ve always maintained shotguns could use 10% more damage and 15% more ammo to bring them into the mainstream as primary weapons. Currently they are ‘just’ melee backups with their high stagger and ability to reliably delete the kind of threats melee needs to deal with.
I was SO looking forwards to shotguns i nthis game then realised theyre garbage at first glace. Then I sat myself down to improve and said ‘what do these do’ then I did that thing and doing that thing theyre pretty good. Theyre not point and click like a Revovler so I see where your complication lies.
The new changes mentioned in the steam announcement look good, but we will know how it truly plays out when the update comes out.
Does the ammo feel a bit anemic still after the proposed changes? Reload still too slow overall after all the changes?
Where’s @Ryshek at.
Reload speed has never been a problem. But the number of ammunitions has always been.
However, if they increase cleave and damages… butI am not sure +10/+15 ammos is enough… but let’s play with it and see… the problem is that there will be never a new balance pass because Fatshark never review its changes.
It is still going to be attrocious because of the amount of shells you have to manually load…
That’s why reload speed has almost no impact on the shotguns and there should have been a blessing that allows you to load 2 shells at the time + some minor reload speed bonus scalling with Blessing’s level.
I said it in a different thread, but the combat shotgun just needs to reload the number of shots it takes to kill a single enemy faster than the time it takes to reload a bolter.
If the buffs are enough, I can deal with partial reloads, I did it all the time with the revolver.
Give me a drummag and I’m happy:
Sadly was at work.
I personally feel that the problem with shotguns is that they have too large of magazines and their damage should be balanced around fixed magazine size of 8.
reloading 11+ shells into a shotgun is going to suck regardless of what your ammo reserve/reload speed is.
I tried to convey this.. but nobody listening over there it feels like ]=
Here you go.
