I am trying this to give it a proper testing for my playstyle cuz i love shotguns but i genuinely have no idea which shotgun you are suggesting. None of them are from Kantreal there is the:
-Agripinaa MK VII
-Zarona MK VI
-Accatran MK IX
I thought maybe i misunderstood and checked the Double Barrel but thats the
-Crucis Mk XI.
Can you please elaborate on which shotgun you actually mean?
Lots of weapons used to have different names at launch and were changed suddenly. We’ll probably never adjust.
Kantrael shotgun → the flame one
Lawbringer → the one people like even less
Waste space in everyone’s inventory.
Blame Fatshark.
They changed the weapon names after 2 years…
To say what I think about shotgun, this is the most balanced ranged weapon of this game. Really perfect.
Its own problem is that all other ranged weapons are not balanced toward him. That’s my opinion.
So, the shotguns are really weak, because a lot of other weapons are way stronger than them.
However, if we were in an ideal world, and shotgun could compete and not make you a spectator.
- Lawbringer: fun weapon, one shot = one kill for anything not ogryn / monstrosity. Special is an anti horde funny.
- Agri: sniper shotgun. The special is so great.
- Kantrael: large area effect. Large damages. Large spread so inefficient at high range. The special can go through shields and kill bulwark with 3 shots, and the special on the weak spot of the BoM deal lot of damages.
Shotgun are damned cause Fatshark does not buff weak weapons and does not nerfs too strong weapons.
The lawbringer is not a bad weapon. At contrary of its reputation. But, obviously, you have so many alternatives that are way more efficient than picking it is… obviously just for the fun of playing it.
However, you will always be behind others with this weapon…
Except if you use scattershot + man stopper.
Really bad… cause it limits the available gameplays.
Reading all the replies, I get the idea that:
1- shotguns are fun (which is why I wish they worked).
2- they kinda work if you tailor your whole build around them, but don’t take them on difficult missions or even expect great results.
They are basically a meme, whatever the shotguns do, there will be another much better option, versatility is overrated when you can’t really do anything well enough, there are situations where you wish you had a flamer, or a bolt gun, but never do I find myself wishing I picked one of the shotguns with me.
Double barrel it fine.
The unfortunate truth.
They’ll be overtuned as hell at release. Then nerfed into the ground to match the other shotguns in a few months time.
The only decent build i have is lawbringer with scattershot and flechettes.
I get the hate for everything else, it’s horrible.
But this build i hope will only get better if they change how shotgun perform.
A Crit vet makes it an almost guaranteed Crit and the bleed makes a ton of damage.
Use special ammo all the time, do not use regular rounds.
It will spread and wipe hordes out of existence while staggering gunners which will die due to the bleeding.

You need t spec them to alleviate the reload/load animations. Vet and Psyker have talents to get around this.
You need to aim. They require skill. You need to hit things in the head when it counts, or be able to. Otherwise youre pissing in the wind expecting to urinate Helms deep to the floor. Not gonna happen. Ever.
Token useless buffs would go a long way to bringing them into ‘the meta’ (god i despise myself for speaking like they do) but theyre already viable. DD/Any shotgun works great. Weapons spec or simply reload speed on the gun itself goes a long way on any class and synergistic blessings*.
*(Lawbringers spreadshot + guaranteed crit Psyker to proc bleed melts things. Slug with DD/ Bring it Down will melt Ogryns pretty reliably but its NOT a Boltgun, however opening a Bulwark or Knocking a Crusher reliably is very useful. Cant count the number of times I’ve SAVED (not DPS omfgwtwaffle) teammates by knocking a Crusher just before its swing connects. The Dragons Breath is just the reduced version of when it was God Mode, and it was Gode Mode. It works the same but doesnt have as much damage or spread. 2-4 alt fires will burn most things. If you dont have reload speed youre donig it very very wrong ).
DBL just oneshots things, its pretty versatile and it pays for this with its ammo cpacity. I think small token ammo buffs are needed because if a teams bases are covered these are extremely useful. Theyre heavy on the situational awareness and aim weapons though. So thats that.
These are the weapons that people who couldnt/didnt use DS before the change are unable to use and naturaly, in their habitat the Forum, will ask for Buffs.
