I never understood this, it is just RNG?
Whether or not it has space in front of it to slam you.
Sometimes you want it to throw you. Just put your back to a wall and let it get you, and it’ll throw you to somewhere else. It can be a handy escape if you’re cornered, for example.
It also can’t throw you off edges unless there’s a valid map location to do so past the edge. Unfortunately that also mean sometimes you’ll magnetise to some ledges/rails and “fall” even though you probably had enough height or speed to make it.
from my experience it yeets me consistenly if he grabs me when cornered close to a wall, but if i get grabbed at the center of the room he does the hurt animation most of the times, also there are some spcific walls in silo cluster/ vigil station map where dogs can’t grab you if you stand close to a wall, i tested with some randoms, i’ve instructed them to not kill the dogs, and stand near a wall, the dogs wouldn’t grab us
not every wall are safe, but on a general rule you want to stand on boxes or an elevated position to me immune to bombers, dogs, mutants
lol sounds like a design oversight
No, it’s working as intended:
Yeet-mode: Geometry or solid objects block the area where the mutie would crunch you.
Crunchy peanutbutter: Mutie has space and you are human-sized.
Punch-bag over crunch-bag: You are playing Ogryn.
Simple as. No dark magic about this one.
What @zaygr and the @Tzcheese -cat said is also right. Mutie will only throw you over edges when walkable ground is beneath, but that does make them dangerous in missions with high verticality.
Bonus: The mutie will always try to throw you in the opposite direction when it’s crunch / punch combo was blocked.
i remember reading somewhere that sometimes mutants will smash you against the ground forever in some cases but i can’t remember if it was a modifier or what the requirement was…
Nurgle’s Chosen buff that turns enemies green and increases various stats causes this.
When a radioactive glowing Mutie grabs you, it’s over.
How could it possibly be a design oversight, when the behavior is programmed to be different?
When mutant grabs you, it asks: “Does my current position and orientation in space enable me to smack the player onto the floor?”
- Yes it does. There is some free space. → Smack. Then turn around and yeet
- No it does not. There is no free space. → No smack. Just turn around and yeet.
I should have hit the reply button to the person above me discussing certain crates/walls make you dog proof.
Telopots has a video explaining this mechanic. In general if theres a solid wall behind you that doesnt move, the mutie will throw you. If youre in the open (or against an object that can move) you will get slammed or punched before being thrown.
This isn’t true anymore. They changed it so they just go super sonic fast now.
The time it was charging is a big factor on if it smashes you as well. If it grabbed you early in the charge it will almost always smash you before tossing you. If it had to run across a medium sized or larger room to grab you then it will usually just toss you first.
