because the pouncing dog, mutant and trapper are all so original right?(Hunter from L4D, Charger from L4D… etc.)
Nothing wrong with reusing old code, especially when the Spawn is the virtually the same from VT2 and the Plague Ogryn is very similar to the minotaur. i think they would be a good fit for this game which does have more balanced focus on ranged vs. melee where VT2 was far heavy on the melee with ranged feeling more like opportunistic shots on enemies.
The Leech fits perfect, and punishes players for running off on their own, which is a huge issue when joining quick matches. while the Blightstormer would need work i could see it as just conjuring a large enfeebling could for players or something.
Yes, and same sort of case, where people say things that have been parroted very often (Slaanesh=Sex; Enemy Psyker → Brainburst), when there is very much more than can be done.
Could there be Brain burst Psyker sure, but it’s not the only thing they could do.
Slaanesh is about excess. their followers are about getting the biggest dopamine rush possible and thus sex is one of the more popular ways to get it along with drugs, and the like. Also as i pointed out over there, most of Slaanesh’s models are a bit sexual, even if they have been toned down ALOT more to make the game more easily accessible to younger audiences. so all about sex, no, but sexual by nature, yes. regardless, heed my point. stop just saying NO to someone and point out how other things can be done to expand upon their idea.
Including psyker enemies has been a long-time desire for me, so I wholly support the idea.
It would be cool if you could even do the 40K canonical psyker-vs-psyker combat where you can “Deny the Witch” of enemy psykers, and try to “block” their use of psychic powers.
This could go both ways. Enemy npc psykers could be nullifying your use of warp attacks (dispel bubbles, remove soulfire dots, cancel smite, take away your warp charges, etc.), and you could do the same to them, forcing you to make a choice between being offensive and keep trying to kill enemies using warp-based attacks, or defensively trying to block enemy npc’s use of psychic powers when enemy sorcerers are nearby.
You could even have a choice talentpoint for psykers that buffs their coherency aura in a way where your team-mates have greater resistance to enemy psykers if they stay near you. Another possible trade-off of course given what else you could spend that talent point on.
Oh and on a tangential note I still think charged force-sword attacks should do extremely high damage to daemon-enemies (daemon host and beast of nurgle), on the level of thunder hammer damage to monstrosities, as force weapons are also canonically able to wound daemons in ways normal weaponry isn’t. The same goes for force weapons used against other psykers. Enemy psyker melee attacks with force weapons should do very high damage to player psykers and the reverse of course.
i’m not saying that the unoriginality is the problem, i’m trying to say that i feel like we shouldn’t rip the blightstormer and leech powers and just slap them on dregs. that would be like taking the billhook and making it look like a sword and then just saying it’s a completely new weapon. it doesn’t feel right.
except the billhook isnt in Darktide so its not the same argument. again i;m making options that are easy for the devs to input. if you wanna make a whole new enemy unit, except to wait another year for it to release
Hey if you wanna wait a whole year and demand the dev team make all new stuff have at it.
make a whole thread about how the spawn is the same as VT2, the Ogryn Crusher is the same as the Chaos Warrior and the Ogyrn Bulwark is the same as the Rot Shield and demand they make those all unique as well. also the Scab warriors are the same as the chaos marauders, and the shout ability of the veteran is the same as Kruber/Saltzpyre shouts and demand they change those as well. yet i don’t see any complaints about any of those? so why the psyker? why does the leech bother you so much you want to keep it out of the game and have them spend necessary time making something completely new for no reason other than you want something completely new?
look i get the idea of wanting new stuff, but Darktide is a very different game than Vermintide. the Leech is a quick addition that adds some needed variety. while the Blightstormer would need some tweaking the overall concept of one works well in here if they just change the players being whirled about in a tornado for something else like a mass debuff zone, or something.
I’m not saying they should stop there. But as i pointed out above, there is alot of recycled content that doesn’t seem to bother anyone, so i’m confused why people are gatekeeping the Leech of all things. Hell one can even argue the Mauler and Ogryn Crusher have ALOT of the same attack animations.
