Visor has been removed from free vet cosmetic, is now a paid cosmetic

So a while ago they enhanced this free vet cosmetic on the commissary with a cool visor:

I was happy and thought “cool, they’re finally updating the commissary” and enjoyed the way it actually makes my Vet look like a guardsman. Was pleasantly surprised that they did something like this. These are the sort of things that people have been wanting to be added to the commissary.

Today I logged in and the helmet now looks like this again:

Where did my visor go, I wonder? Is it a bug? Did they accidentally take it out again?
Investigation reveals it was probably not an accident:

That nice little free visor on the commissary helmet is now a paid cosmetic it seems.

I just wanted to tell people who may have missed this about it and express my disappointment. Not only did I get baited and thought they did a nice thing for the commissary, they also turned this commissary-appropriate minor edit of a free cosmetic into a paid one, doubling down by making it a really low effort paid cosmetic, like the Arbites helmet with the visor up.

I am aware, in retrospect, that they may have added the visor to the free store by mistake. It could’ve been a happy little mistake though, and it happened to align exactly with what a lot of people wanted out of the commissary (free small edits) and what people dislike about the paid shop (low effort edits of existing cosmetics)

Worse is that the red visor is now also gone for good.

Wrong.

Here’s the most likely thing that happened:

  • Copy mesh of the comissary helmet in order to create the ‘premium’ version of it
  • forget to rename the export into something else
  • it gets bundled into the new files to be patched in
  • overwrites the original comissary helmet
  • FS fails to notice due to QA not existing
  • Weeks pass
  • They remedy their error just before the new slop is supposed to drop

Am fully aware and mentioned this, I’m simply reciting the sequence of events the way they played out at the time.

It’s one of those things where they made a good move on accident and decided to correct that.

and here it is to no one’s surprise. Though anyone who was around for shirtless knows nothing cool and free is intentional to fat shark.

Inventing bold new ways to fumble your in game store. Good to see they can be market leaders in something.

Yet people cry WHEN ARBITES COSMETICS. Some people are unable to learn.

You’d have thought the visor clipping through the top of the Helmet would be sufficient clue that it wasn’t an intentional change.

It’s honestly hard to tell with Fatshark.

Not sure I’d take clipping to mean that when many even paid cosmetics have some sort of self-clipping issue.
I get it though, it’s always really obvious (in hindsight) and everyone smart knew the moment it was added but chose not to speak up.
