Expeditions is currently a dead game mode. I would like to see it repurposed into something akin to chaos wastes from Vermintide 2.
Utilize the expeditions maps as an entry to something akin to starting a chaos waste. instead of having the transition zone where you buy things with tech remnants, you use that to transition into the next map tile set (maybe going through the first section of Excise vault Spireside-13 to grab the cypher ident, and then transition into a different tileset from the elevator after grabbing the Cypher ident). The transition zones can be a point to spend Tech Remnants on supplies, special nades, or boons from the mortis trials.
I would also love to see the enemies in the expeditions mode be more responsive to combat going on around them.
This game has all the systems already to make a great chaos wastes equivalent. I feel like the fun of mortis trials and expeditions is hindered by the map design. utilizing your tileset system to tie in base maps with expeditions could GREATLY increase this game’s longevity.
Please don’t let these interesting systems you’ve built fall by the wayside; they only need a re-tweak to capture the magic we feel in the base gameplay in a new way.
It honestly feels like they doing all they can to avoid Chaos Wastes, yet still putting bits of it in every now and then. But also seems like they want to do things differently to VT2 despite sometimes they are solved problems in VT2. Sometimes it might work better, but a lot of the times they don’t.
Have a feeling there is a sizeable portion of unretained players who find the typical mission length too long and thus we get Operations maps and expeditions instead of true adventure mode maps and CW.
All the systems are in place; all they need to do is spend some time combining those systems into a fun game mode. If a modder can make a chaos wastes for solo play, then I KNOW Fatshark can do the same.
Im not really sure the solution to that, as what im proposing is more like a string of maps, so it would be chaos wastes length in theory. maybe they could string together some tiles into a bunch of short operation maps, but i cant speak much to that (as i prefer the longer games).
by recent map design, do you mean Expeditions and No Man’s Land? just expeditions?
I think (if you’re referring to expeditions) tweaks to AI behavior, changes to the game mode to encourage combat like the main gameplay loop of darktide (instead of avoiding combat), and making ammo/nade pickups possible in the map itself might make these new maps more inline with the main loop of darktide.
I feel like No Man’s Land play’s to this game’s strength and adds to this games map rotation, and I wish I saw it in auric maelstrom/havoc rotations. So I personally don’t feel that particular map is incongruent with the main gameplay loop.
I fully agree with you that Expeditions don’t play well into Darktide’s strengths; I hope they are working on a way to address that issue as well.
