New map rocks socks! I love basically everything about it. All parts have an identity and it encourages a lot of rotating and movement. Also speed of train ride makes brain go BRRR ^.^
I really like the new shotgun. The kick feels good, it does good damage, has a lot of ammo, reloads fast. I’ve only rolled one with run and gun and it gives big Doom energy. Btw, we should totally be able to reload during run n gun
I appreciate the balance changes made in the patch, especially the zealot rending change. It feels like a lot of good groundwork is being laid for future balancing.
So yeah! Good patch! I’m looking forward to the itemization update plus any balance changes made in the interim.
The old map overhauls are a blast too. Silo Cluster the admechs decided to move that monster spawn after the event over to the ledge. I dashed into a spawn as it jumped over the fence and pushed it off with 2 rocks, these are the kinds of overhauls worth playing old stuff for. Smelter Complex is quite grand as well.
There is one thing i do not like in regard to the reworked older maps (that i have played so far):
The newly added spawn points where enemies crawl out of the floor.
I do not mind having those floor spawns in some places, but they should not be placed right next to a wall.
Those are just weird and should not be there.
Other stuff was nice, am def happy to see some positivity, but can’t agree about balancing. Pretty good evidence for this is Knife and Revolver being largely untouched while vastly worse setups got very noticeably worse.
Gonna link this here since you didn’t respond to it in the relevant thread:
Nothing personal but I didn’t respond there because I didn’t think a conversation with you was going to go anywhere. I do believe revolver and knife should and will be toned down but I’d like to leave that thread in its own space.
Fatshark’s aware of forum perception, actual metrics of play, and their grander design for balance. My enjoyment of the content and balance given to us is not dependent on whether or not other issues were fixed. So I made this post to talk about what I liked!
Refuse to play the new patch til something meaningful happens in Darktide
Nothing worthwhile to play for other than to kill time. New maps just don’t cut it (in terms of a reason to play), and the new weapons may as well not exist.
Gimme some new game modes, new blessings, better Veteran builds (meaning better talents, so another overhaul), and how about weapons to work towards like reds from VT2. Just some kind of reason to boot up the game would be nice.
Pretty damned awful, imo.
Also, FS, your cosmetics system sucks, so I’m never, ever going to load up to check the premium store. Like, ever.
Haven’t had a chance to dive into any old missions – very excited about the updates there and the continued approach to keeping them fresh – but I love the feel of the new one. Has, as you said, identity! And I think that goes beyond just the new seemingly-semi-randomized (?) events. The snow area where you’re moving into the level, pushing into gunner lines while more squads of gunners fill in from behind, feels fresh to me. And I love the little touches, like the snow on enemies.
I’m also really enjoying the bolt pistol on vet. I was worried it would be like my beloved revolver’s ugly cousin, the Agri quickdraw, which seemed like it’d be a lot of fun but ultimately handles like crap while moving. I miss so many shots with the quickdraw that I just can’t use it. But I don’t have that problem with the bolt pistol, and the added CC (and annoying enemies behind cover) is a lot of fun. The other weapons, I’m still feeling out.
The crosshair changes are unexpected and nice QoL, as is the voice modification previews. Given the amount of work it takes to make a new VO set, I think more modifications will go a long way to adding variety to comms. Digging that.
That’s of course your prerogative, we’ve seen eye to eye on quite a lot of issues round here, so I’d be surprised if we couldn’t have a productive discussion on how they’re currently handling balance. Promise I’m not one of those blanket anti nerf folks who are allergic to nuance
Anyway with the new crafting blog out too it certainly is nice to see some positivity around here.
