Unfair Name Change

Issue Type (Required):

Name Change

Issue Description (Required):

My character’s name and appearance was reset. I was able to change the appearance back to what it was, but the name “Methanol-Mommy” seems to have been blocked, which I think is unfair, considering methanol isn’t a drug.

They probably think it will encourage idiots to drink methanol or something IDK I can’t follow the logic of this nanny state nonsense.

I wonder if Menthol Mommy works…

I don’t think there’s any thought at all, I have messed around ALOT with names in this game and I am 100% sure it’s some sort of algorithm or AI deciding what is allowed or not. It shifts and adapts in real time.

In terms of the 40k empire’s food safety regulations and the 40k average physical fitness of humans, perhaps there are really people who can drink methanol as if it were alcohol.

The way non-english speaking companies (I can only point at talent tooltips if you think they don’t qualify) usually do this is by buying a filter off a company that specifically makes and maintains these filters. Dark Souls games notably do this too which is why you have really funny overly specific wordfilters.

Obviously a lot of slurs and stuff in here but take a gander at this here DS3 censor list and you’ll know what I mean

Just in case you don’t wanna click it the list starts strong with stuff like “angrypirates”. It’s important to note that these don’t care if they’re in the middle of the word, so unless a special exception is made, Scum is censored because of cum. I think that was literally the case on HS release.

Anyway I assume they’re paying for a service like this and the service might now use AI to shift the censorlist around a lot so it looks like they’re doing things that justify a subscription fee.

Hey Captain! It is indeed possible you were renamed due to the reference; I’ll look in to this and report back.

This isn’t the worst alternative, actually

That’s definitely what was used initially in Darktide but something is different now, I managed to trick it with my hivescum

Jenkem was blocked so I had to use gobledygook letters, then I tried some different combinations of gobledygook letters didn’t like it and decided to switch back to what it was in the pic but it had learned and now it’s like this instead:

Interesting, I remember a guy getting banned for a couple hundred years because he kept circumventing name filters. It’s kind of funny to think they invested in some AI real time solution to solve that

Hi Captain, I can confirm we did not change your name or your operative’s appearance.

Edit: It looks like a series of Barber visits took place between Sun 29 Mar 2026 06:24:15 UTC and Sun 29 Mar 2026 07:31:31 UTC, in which the name and appearance was changed each time. I hope this helps!

That is very odd. I for sure never did the initial change in which my character’s name and gender were swapped. Unless someone logged onto my account and did only that and nothing else, I don’t know how that could have happened. I did visit the barber shortly after I noticed what happened to change my character’s look back to what it was, are you sure that’s not what those visits were? Additionally, it wouldn’t let me change my name back to “Methanol-Mommy” until this morning, like it was blocked. If it helps, the first name it was changed to was Montov, which I believe is a default name. Either way, its fixed now, so thanks for the help.

what have angry penguins and pirates done tro some people…

manual translation from a very old pc game:

“Benutzer mögen sprechen Worte in mortal coil,

tun dies erschallen wave.Akte zu ihre harte fährt”

if it sticks 30 years in your memory to the point of recitation on demand, you know its comedic gold
